MA Olympic beat Townsville Warriors 3-1 to advance to the fifth round of Queensland’s statewide knockout Kappa Cup.

Two goals in two minutes from electric forward Padraic Glasheen just after halftime gave MA Olympic the lead and young gun Tom Berzinski added another midway through the half to ensure his team saw out the win.

It was always going to be a tough task for Warriors after rising star Nate West was shown a red card after just 20 minutes of play.

Despite being a man down, Warriors hit the lead just before the break when Gareth Edds converted a penalty – but the advantage was short-lived as Glasheen nailed his own spot kick to tie the game before netting the go-ahead goal just minutes later.

Mackay Lions, Marlin Coast Rangers and Across The Waves were the other regional winners in the men’s Cup in round 4.

Warriors had a much better showing in the women’s fixture, beating Estates FC 6-0 to advance to the fourth round of the Kappa Cup.

Monique Gibbs came on late and made the most of her opportunity with a nice goal to put a cherry on top of the emphatic win.

Kristy Hanna scored the other Brothers goal while MA Olympic was unable to find the back of the net thanks to a tremendous performance by Maddison Marsh between the posts.

Mackay Lions beat Magpies 4-0 in the round 4 fixture between the sides on Friday night to become the first team to progress to round 5 on the women’s side of the draw.
