With the Great Barrier Reef T20 Champions Trophy set to get underway in Mackay on Saturday, take a look at the players set to light it up for your town.

Custom Fluidpower Mudcrabs (Mackay)

Darryn Dyer

Dyer is arguably the most explosive batsmen in this competition, with five centuries to his name already this summer and a host of other monster totals.

He scored a massive 144* (65) in the Mackay T20 competition, and while he can be occasionally a “feast or famine” type of player, if he passes that 20-30 run mark, look out.

Cameron Keene

With 755 runs, 22 wickets and 12 catches to his name this summer, Keene is one of the best all-round cricketers going around in the competition.

With plenty of big game experience under his belt, expect Keene to stand tall when the moment calls for it.

Tim Cridland

The Mudcrabs skipper knows how to get the job done on the big stage, leading the Mudcrabs to victory in the Mackay T20 competition, and has been a very productive member of his local club Pioneer Valley so far this season.

Elders Insurance Rams (Rockhampton)

Lachlan Hartley.

Lachlan Hartley

Assumes the captaincy this weekend and will be keen to lead from the front. He will open the batting for the Rams, and loves to hit boundaries early with the field up. He is instrumental in laying the foundation for large totals or chasing them down. He also provides a safe pair of hands as the team’s wicket-keeper.

Todd Harmsworth.

Most likely will open the batting. He is a match-winner with the willow and plays very aggressively to fast bowling, in particular. The Rams will look to him to get them off to some flying starts.

Tim Reid

A key in the middle order, he can round out an innings with some clean strikes. A medium-pace bowler who varies his pace well, he will deliver some important spells through the middle of the innings.

Piccone Badgers (Cairns)

Jake Roach

Arguably Cairns best cricketer, Roach can do it all with bat or ball in hand. The big hitting all-rounder can bat anywhere and at times has opened the batting for the Badgers but can just as equally as damaging with the ball with his pace, bounce and variation.

Jordan Fulton

Barron Rivers leading wicket taker is quick, will consistently hit an area causing any batsman a headache of trying to get him away. As good as he is with a new ball, he is just as good with an older ball bowling at the death.

Ben McCartney

Badgers front line spinner, McCartney hit the winning runs in the Barrier Reef Big Bash final in Cairns showcasing that he can do it with both bat and ball. The leg-spinner can be quite deceiving with his variations, something that Roach used well during the competition in Cairns.

Gold City Bulls (Townsville)

Pierce Carrara

In a team with five players under the age of 18, wicketkeeper-bat Pierce Carrara shapes as a youngster with sky-high potential. No team can afford to carry a specialist wicketkeeper in T20 cricket and Carrara’s composed striking will be a valuable asset. In the Mendi Big Bash season Carrara started as a lower order option but gave selectors no choice but to let him climb with each successful knock.

Brenton Edwards

An Australian over-40s representative hailing from Cairns will be the Gold City Bulls’ secret weapon. Edwards is a foundation member of the Bulls and a key part of the squad’s breakthrough premiership this season. On this stage his insider knowledge of the tendencies of the Bulls’ cross-state rivals will be imperative. The big unit brings a strong left hand top order bat and accurate medium pace.

Heath O’Brien

A perennial target for Gold City in the Mendi Big Bash draft but the Suburban Parks master blaster has never quite fallen to the Bulls - until now. A slew of player unavailabilites has seen the big-swinging open bat drafted in for the trip to Mackay where his fence-clearing abilities can turn a game inside the power play.

Brandon Hamilton-Kaurila

A Queensland junior representative all-rounder who combines good pace with excellent striking. Since making the move from Townsville Wests to Townsville Brothers, Hamilton-Kaurila has proven his reputation as one of North Queensland’s top rising stars is well-deserved. Another ring-in who will be asked to fill the mighty shoes of Queensland Country captain and all-rounder Sam Lowry.

Ben Ramsbotham

Townsville’s fastest bowler and a member of the Queensland under-19 cricket team that challenged for the national title last month. Ramsbotham’s reputation as one of the state’s finest emerging seamers had distracted many from the fact that he averaged more than 60 with the bat in Townsville’s under-17 competition just a few seasons ago. Ramsbotham will be among the tournament’s leading wicket-takers, there is no doubt.
