Extraordinary scenes headlined Beaudesert’s Cricket Gold Coast debut, with the club’s second-grade match with Burleigh ending in a tie.

Burleigh batted first and set Beaudesert a target of 186, and a finish as frantic as they come awaited.

Beaudesert needed four runs for victory heading into the final over, and with two balls remaining the scores were tied, but Burleigh pulled off back-to-back run outs on the final two balls to ensure the scores remained tied, with Beaudesert finishing on 8-186.

Of the final five balls, three resulted in run outs. A simply remarkable win.

Elsewhere, there were plenty of standouts. Jakson Webb was the pick of the bowlers across every grade with his astounding haul of 7-17 off five overs in Southport Labrador’s second-grade thrashing of Coomera Hope Island.

Discover our 3-2-1 votes from every round 1 match across the top three Cricket Gold Coast grades below.

Southport Labrador 161 def by Coomera Hope Island 4-162

3. Phil Tunnicliffe (Coomera Hope Island)

The wickets were evenly shared by Coomera Hope Island in a great bowling display, and after Tunnicliffe’s handy effort with ball in hand to take 1-26 from 7.1 overs. He followed it up with a crucial 69 runs from 67 balls with bat in hand. Not a bad showing against his former side.

2. Dhanuska Mitipolaarachchi (Southport Labrador)

Was the shining light in an otherwise disappointing Southport Labrador innings and only eight more runs were scored for the final three wickets after he was dismissed as the Tigers tail crumbled.

1. Faizan Amin (Coomera Hope Island)

The new Coomera recruit opened the bowling and was tidy with 1-26 from 8 overs, and also steered his side to a comfortable win with a steadying 28 not out from 39 balls. Honourable mention to James Kleinschmidt who played a great hand with 46 not out from 59 balls.

Queens 5-196 def Runaway Bay 9-136

3. Jackson Winton (Queens)

The off-spinner did the bulk of the damage for Queens with the ball and picked up 4-30 from his eight overs. Was also destructive at the top of the order despite his short-lived stay at the crease, to crunch five boundaries from 13 deliveries and finish with 27 runs.

Honourable mention to Queens’ Steven Graham who took two early wickets to reduce Runaway Bay to a precarious 3-25 and finished with a very tidy 2-20 from his eight overs.

2. Jordan Renau (Queens)

Occupied the crease well to lift his side to its matchwinning total and finish with a handy 58 not out.

1. Corey Hucker (Runaway Bay)

Hucker strode to the crease with his side in dire straights, reduced to 6-45 and knuckled down to lift them to their final total of 9-136 in a gritty display. He finished with 61 not out from 92 balls and saved Runaway Bay from a disastrous loss.

Alberton Ormeau 114 def by Helensvale Pacific Pines 5-119

3. Joshua Henderson (Helensvale Pacific Pines)

Reduced Alberton to 2-0 in a destructive opening over and it could be argued they never recovered, limping to 114. He finished with 2-23 from his seven overs and then crunched his way 13 not out from nine balls – including a six and a four – with bat in hand to seal the result.

2. Jack Lickiss (Helensvale Pacific Pines)

The captain got his side off to a strong start in what could’ve been an awkward run chase with 27 runs off 38 balls at the top of the table. Also stuck a couple of catches.

1. Harry Lickiss (Helensvale Pacific Pines)

It was another Lickiss brother doing damage with the ball for Helensvale as Harry cleaned up the tail to finish with a very tidy 3-6 from 3.4 overs. Chandima Bandara was equally impressive with 2-10 from seven overs.

Mudgeeraba Nerang 232 def Surfers Paradise 206

3. Will Mahoney (Mudgeeraba Nerang)

Was slightly expensive but picked up three crucial wickets early in a high-scoring clash to single-handedly reduce Surfers to 3-25 – a start that would prove pivotal in his side holding on for a 26-run win.

2. Kevin Chapman (Mudgeeraba Nerang)

Played a handy opening hand to guide his side past triple figures with a patient 42 from 63 balls. Also finished off the Demons with ball in hand, taking the final two wickets to finish with 2-38. Lydon Gibbons was also solid with the bat for Mudgeeraba Nerang crunching 46 off 39 deliveries.

1. Harold Jones (Surfers Paradise)

Jones led the way for Surfers with bat in hand for Surfers, wasting no time en route to 58, facing just 38 balls. Jones didn’t fare as well with the ball however, going for 26 runs from three overs. Michael Waldren also impressed with the ball for the Demons, taking 4-53 from 7.4 overs.

Palm Beach Currumbin 7-234 def Broadbeach Robina 186

3. Finn Lonnberg (Palm Beach Currumbin)

Lonnberg was decisive with the ball for PBC as he tore through Broadbeach Robina to finish with 4-30 from his 8 overs. He claimed the scalps of both openers and three of the Cats’ top five bats as they faltered in pursuit of Palm Beach’s lofty total. Opening bat Michael Craig was also a key contributor with the bat for the victors, working his way to 58 from 76 valls.

2. Thomas Catherwood (Broadbeach Robina)

The pressure was on when Catherwood strode to the crease, with Broadbeach Robina having lost 2-0, but he steadied the ship and then excelled, keeping his side in the fight with a defiant 75 from 87 balls. He crunched three sixes and eight total boundaries.

1. Jackson Robson (Broadbeach Robina)

Robson was the pick of the bowlers as Palm Beach Currumbin piled on the runs, taking a very tidy 2-23 from 8 overs with two maidens. Particularly impressive when you consider no other Broadbeach bowler went for less than five runs an over.
