Far North Fusion is set to unleash one of the most explosive batting line-ups in years at this year’s Bulls Masters Country Cricket Tournament.

Expect fireworks in one of the biggest rivalries in regional Queensland, with the three-day tournament beginning with the Far North Fusion and North Queensland Monsoons on Friday night under the lights at Griffiths Park.

Former Queensland Bull players will be the mentors for each team across the Sunshine State with Jimmy Maher named as the mentor for the Fusion and Luke Feldman for the Monsoons.

Cairns Cricket Association president Peter Huey said the players have plenty of fire in them this time.

“The boys are hungry to get back on the Gabba and claim the prize like we did two seasons ago,” Huey said.

“It is such an incredible thing, to this type of tournament in our backyard, it is pretty special.

“The match up against the Monsoons is always fiery, we love it, the boys love it.

“We love the battle with Townsville, no matter what the sport but we like to hold something over them when it comes to cricket.”

The Fusion have picked a star studded line up this season once again and will head into the tournament one of the favourites to win.

Far North gun and country Queensland representative Jake Roach has found plenty of form with the bat during the CCA Barrier Reef Big Bash T20 competition.

“The idea to have the big bash leading into the Bulls Masters is so players do have that mind frame of playing T20 cricket,” Huey said.

“Roachy (Jake Roach) has been playing some incredible cricket, it has been pretty spectacular to watch.

“Lets just hope he can continue it in this tournament.”

In a last minute call, Barron River basher Adam Trewin has been called into the side before Far North Fusion’s opening game.

He replaced emerging demon paceman Henry King in a tough blow for the side.

Trewin will suit up for his third Bulls Masters after a dominant campaign in the Barrier Reef Big Bash with 158 runs (third most) averaging 31.6 runs.

Pool A consists of Far North Fusion, North Queensland Monsoons, Central Queensland Seamers and Darling Downs Suns.

While Pool B has Mackay-Whitsunday Nitros, SEQ Stormers, Sunshine Coast Scorchers and Wide Bay Flames.

The finals will be leader of Pool A taking on second placed in Pool B and leader of Pool B taking on second place of Pool A.

Both semi finals will be played at Griffiths Park on Sunday October 6 with a shot to play in the final at the Gabba on Sunday December 29 as a curtain raiser for the Brisbane Heat v Sydney Sixers clash.
