A month ago, a generous gesture bridged continents and brought hope to a football community in Sierra Leone, Africa.
Edge Hill United Football Club, guided by the efforts of Under-18 Coach Morie Lahai and Vice President Scott Burness, donated kits from previous seasons to the developing yet underprivileged Lowcost Housing Community Football Club in Sierra Leone.
This thoughtful contribution has profoundly impacted the team, providing fresh kits for both their junior and senior sides.
Coach Morie Lahai shared the news on Edge Hill United’s social media.
“I spoke to Scott Burness about this visit in May (this year),” he said.
“Thanks to this generosity, Lowcost Housing Community FC now has kits for both junior and senior teams. They have a new set of jerseys which they are really happy about. I was delighted to see the smiles on their faces when they wore the jerseys for the very first time.”
The gratitude from Sierra Leone was palpable, with Lowcost Housing Community FC coach Steven Edmond Massaquoi extending a heartfelt thank you to the Far North football club.
“Please pass our regards to Edge Hill United FC and everyone involved,” he said.
“Your support plays a crucial role in our community. Football gives our youth purpose and hope, with dreams of lifting their families out of poverty. Your contribution brings them one step closer to achieving that dream.”
It is stories like these that capture the essence of the ‘world’s game’. Uniting communities and inspiring dreams, sport can truly be a vehicle for hope across the globe.
