Kedron-Wavell Cougars v Gold Coast Titans (Ruby)
Brisbane South Wildcats v Moreton Bay City Pulse (Men)
Earlier, Kedron-Wavell mid-courter Jessica Laga’aia had been the catalyst for the Cougars’ electric start and with goal shooter Nalani Makunde near faultless (50/96.15%), they appeared in cruise mode.
In contrast, the Bull Sharks were jittery and frittered away scoring opportunities against the minor premiers.
When Cougars the went to the halftime break with a whopping 41-27 lead, no one in the stadium could have predicted what would unfold in the third quarter.
The injection of Tappenden and her two-point shooting had an immediate impact as the Bull Sharks went about reducing the double-digit deficit with a stunning 22-7 third quarter.
RUBY GRAND FINAL
Kedron-Wavell Cougars have staged a remarkable last-quarter fightback against the Gold Coast Titans to clinch the Ruby grand final 60-57.
Trailing by five goals at three-quarter-time, the Cougars appeared in deep trouble after surrendering the third term 11-18.
But a stunning turnaround and 18-10 scoreline has seen them charge back. An injury to Gold Coast goal attack Haley Matthews playing a significant role in the about-face.
Cougars goal shooter Simone Botha was outstanding with 50 goals at 89.25 per cent.
Ava Barrett (35/71.34%) also shone at the other end for the vanquished.
M-LEAGUE GRAND FINAL
Moreton Bay has climbed off the canvas for a thrilling 56-55 victory against Brisbane South in the M-League season decider.
Trailing late in the final quarter, consecutive two pointers by Moreton Bay tied up scores before a contact penalty and subsequent goal with seconds remaining gave them the win.
Angus Burrett (32/65.31%) and Kobe Webster (24/61.54%) worked well in tandem for the winners, but it was their clutch two-point shooting that did the real damage.
Despite going under, no more could be asked of Wildcats goal shooter Zac Dunfee, who finished with 44 goals at 97.78 per cent.
All three of the do-or-die match-ups were live streamed exclusively on Kommunity TV.

The men’s match at 2pm between Brisbane South and Moreton Bay will begin the day’s action.
All three do-or-die match-ups will be exclusively live streamed on Kommunity TV.
Ahead of Sunday’s mouth-watering match-ups, this masthead caught up with standout Sapphire stars Lillyana Rennie (Cougars) and Sophie Westover (Bull Sharks) as they gave their thoughts on who would end up as 2025 premiers.
Q: How has the season been to date?
RENNIE: “It’s been really good. Missing out on finals last year was really tough, but we’re a new team so I think using last year as a big building year to take into this season has been really exciting. The back half of the season has just fallen into place. We’re lucky that most of us play in future Firebirds so we almost get two seasons together during the year which is pretty helpful. Finishing as minor premiers was a nice goal for us but we’re looking forward to finishing off the job this weekend.“
WESTOVER: “It’s been a really exciting season. We had a new group last year and got a good taste of finals but knew we wanted to take it that extra step heading into the new season. We had a few players leave and others come in but the girls have really banded together.”
Q: What are you expecting for Sunday’s clash?
RENNIE: “Our last two matches have been against them which is a bit different but we’ve been lucky enough to get both wins. We went down to them at the start of the season so we know they can bring a really tough game and it will be a step above again this weekend. We take confidence in the back of our mind but we know anything can happen and we have a big job to do. I think both attacking ends will play a big role as both teams have really strong two point shooters. It will be a big job for the defenders and the mid-court will be vital to turn the ball over or make the most of their opportunities.”
WESTOVER: “I think having played them twice previously we know what to expect in terms of the physicality. The Cougars put out a really strong showing in that first final and I would be lying if I said we didn’t walk away from that game disappointed. It gave us an opportunity to go back to the drawing board and reflect on what worked and what didn’t. We’re really focused on what we can control and sticking within our bubble. We’re ready to put our best foot forward on Sunday.”
Q: What’s the feeling like among the playing group?
RENNIE: “We’re all absolutely stoked. Everyone is excited but training this week will be the same. Having our Ruby side in the grand final is a big achievement as well.”
WESTOVER: “There was really good energy in the change room after Sunday but we know the job’s not done yet. I feel faith in the girls, we’ve been working really hard this year. The side is made up of girls that have come from all different pathways, bringing in fresh ideas or great experiences so I’m excited to see what we’re capable of.”
