Powerhouse combination North Brisbane Polo Bears have made easy work of the Mermaids to progress through to the women’s gold medal match in the Queensland Water Polo Premier League.
Superior strength in attack and accuracy in front of the cage always meant the Polo Bears were in total control.
Mermaids had their moments, but just couldn’t force their way back into the contest as North Brisbane cruised to an 18-9 victory and now find themselves in the grand final in two weeks.
In the other semi-final, the Brisbane Vikings jumped Gold Coast in dramatic fashion, setting up an eight-goal lead before surrendering one the other way.
Gold Coast applied the handbrake in the second quarter, but the damage had been well and truly done as the Vikings went the main break leading 12-1.
The tight hold didn’t last for long though as Brisbane ran riot in the second half to post a 24-2 triumph.
Despite the Brisbane’s dominance over the Gold Coast, the Polo Bears will be a different proposition and the Vikings will need to be at their absolute best to take down the competition’s benchmark side.

PREVIEW
The women get a big day in the Water Polo Queensland Premier League started in Pool 1 when University of Queensland and Polo Bears go head-to-head in a third v fifth match-up.
UQ has claimed just one win so far this season while their northern suburbs rival has bagged two.
In pool 2, it will be a big men’s game between Warriors and UQ to kick of proceedings.
While the University side are currently unbeaten and sitting second on the ladder, the Warriors are stuck mid table.
A win for the underdogs would push them into a favourable position ahead of their final two round games.
It could shape up to be a tough day in the office for the Sunshine Coast women, who are yet to claim a victory and set to face the ladder leading Vikings in their midday clash.
From 1:45pm, all eyes will be on pool 2 as the women’s semifinals get underway.
Five of the six teams are still in the running for the final four. Who will claw their way to a chance at the big dance?
