Mareeba Muay Thai fighter Anthony Raoul has exacted sweet revenge against rival Far North fighter Charles Jakab after a victory before the judges on Saturday night.
Raoul could not rely on support from the crowd who cheered louder for local man Jakab, who tried to smile his way through Raoul’s huge right-hand punches across three rounds.
Raoul suffered a bloodied nose in the final round, but the Tablelands man, who was knocked out by a Jakab knee in their first fight, did not slow the onslaught and scored a unanimous scorecard victory.
Raoul, who is trained at SMT Gym in Mareeba, roared in delight when the referee raised his arm in victory.
The Mareeba gym scored another victory earlier in the night when Shakayla Pefrola defeated Townsville fighter Vicky Valesquez in another unanimous scorecard win.
TITLE REMATCH REVENGE
Townsville teenager Matty Clarke has exorcised his demons, with a flurry of punches in the final round landing him a split decision victory over Cairns’ Jesse Clarke.
The Elite Fight Series title victory, which headlined a monster 11-fight card at Brothers Leagues Club Cairns, was more than 12 months in the making for the Fight Firm fighter.
The championship bout, which went to a split decision from the judges, was a rematch between the two fighters which Jesse had won last year.

The fight started with a brutal roundhouse kick to the face, which set the tone for a furious five rounds of championship action.
Jesse fought his way back into the contest with a controlling fourth round, but it was a furious final round where both fighters completely let loose which swayed the result in the Townsville fighter’s direction.
The judges result brought the ire from the Cairns faithful in the arena, but it didn’t faze the Townsville pugilist.
“Major respects to Jesse and the Fight Academy, you always know you’re going to war against Jesse,” Clarke said.
“I don’t know why they are booing. We put on a good show, and everyone should be cheering regardless of the result.”
The main event capped off an incredible night of action from the Elite Fight Series card, with all 11 bouts on the night going to the judges scorecards.
It also capped off a great night for the Fight Firm Thaiboxing gym in Townsville, who clean swept their fights on the card.

Preview: Chalker looks to idols for in-ring guidance
Cairns fighter Jack Chalker has looked to legends of Muay Thai for inspiration as he takes the next step towards combat sports glory.
The Fight Academy student will face off against Fusion Innisfail’s Lachlan Bradtke on the Elite Fight Series fight night, which will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV via the Cairns Post website from 6pm, Saturday.

Craving to get back into the ring, Chalker has continued to take his fighting game to the next level through his fighting icons.
“I used to base my fighting style off Rodtang Jitmuangnon but as my knowledge of Muay Thai has grown, probably more of a fighter who is signed to ONE Championship, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, he’s a really good example of how I would like to fight and how I try and base my style around,” Chalker said.
“(I have) got a way to go, but gotta start somewhere.”
Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon compiled over 250 wins by the time he turned 21, and reached the pinnacle of striking, when he claimed the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title.
Meanwhile, living legend and former ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Hama has captured nearly every major accolade in the sport and is considered one of the greatest strikers of all time.
What makes both their accomplishments even more admirable is the fact they were born of pure hard work, determination and came from humble beginnings, stories Chalker embraces.
“My biggest strengths are probably my fitness and my hands. They are probably the two I’m most confident with.”
“(During fight camp I’ve been) working on things that don’t come as naturally to me, keeping a nice balance while continuing to build a big, strong tank, a real engine.”
Chalker will represent The Fight Academy and praised the family environment of the gym during training camp.
“Everyone in the fight team we all get along really well, we all train really hard together and it forms really strong bonds.”
Despite a tightly contested, gruelling fight against Limitless Combat’s Jacob Chandler.
A unanimous decision result didn’t go Chalker’s way but he’s looking to come out aggressive against Bradtke.
“He’s a little bit taller but I embrace that, most of my training partners are taller than me so it’s not foreign to me.”
“I look to break the range and use the right tools, someone has got longer arms but I’ve got longer legs then it’s about using my strengths and the right tools at the right time.”
The official card for the fight night has been released with some of North Queensland’s fiercest fighters ready to test their mettle between the ropes.
How ‘family’ drives Clarke’s Elite Fight Series title defence dreams
Cairns Muay Thai fighter Jesse Clarke credits the family environment of The Fight Academy for his rise through the ranks as he prepares to defend his title on Saturday.
The DF Gym fighter will step into the ring at the Elite Fight Series event at Brothers Leagues Club, with all the action to be shown live and exclusive by KommunityTV.
All fights from Saturday night’s event will be exclusively live streamed by KommunityTV via the Cairns Post website from 6pm.
Clarke will headline the card against Matty Clarke, a man he’s beaten before, and will take the full suite of Fight Academy skills with him.
“(I’ve based my game off) everyone in the gym to be honest,” Clarke said.
“Everyone comes in and goes to work and it pushes you to work even harder, if you find yourself stuck in a rut someone always comes over and pushes you through it and gives you direction.
“Everyone here has the same goal to go further, be better and everyone just keeps rising.
“We have a tight family here, when we’re not here in the gym, we are with each other watching fights.”
Clarke spoke of his admiration of The Fight Academy owner Patrick Doherty as well as sharing the gym and learning from experienced and successful names like Ryan McDonald, Tristan Picton and Dirk Cummings.
For this bout, Clarke has put an emphasis on his composure and workrate in the ring.
“I’m actually pulling myself back, trying to be calm in the ring, much more of the mental side and focusing on my work rate,” he said.
“My last fight I was six kilos lighter than my opponent, I was very angry and headhunted him.
“I got the win but not exactly how I wanted, I got caught up more in trying to smash him than actually dance and do Muay Thai with him.”
This will be the 58kg Elite Fight Series titleholder’s second crack at Clarke after his unanimous points decision victory last year.
Clarke said he is expecting a different fight this time round.
“Last time was a good fight, nice and hard, I think I was just on form that night, but awesome rematch to get stuck into,” he said.
Punching above his weight and size in his past few fights might give Clarke the extra edge heading into the bout.
“This guy is really good, I respect him a lot, similar size, I’m happy that it’s happening but he’s still very dangerous,” Clarke said.
“I spar with taller opponents all the time so its really nothing to me.
“I know how to get around that so fighting a shorter opponent more around my size is going to be good, but unusual.”
