Future Firebirds and Diamonds alike have taken centre stage at Nissan Arena in Brisbane as Queensland’s best young netballers battled it out to be crowned state champions.

MATCH WRAP: Under-18 Grand Final - Titans def USQ Jets 36-28

The U18 grand final was never going to be easy for the Titans, with the Jets boasting U19 Aussie squad members Elsa Sif Sandholt in goal shooter and Lillyana Rennie in keeper.

The Jets began strong, slightly edging out the Titans until their combinations began to form and a real battle began.

Leading by one at half-time, the Titans’ existing combinations from the Sapphire and Ruby Series were evident, as Talitah Faifai and Dakota Newson put on a show in the attack.

It was arguably the performance of Bayley d’Hotman de Villiers that forced the Jets to change tall timber Sandholt into goal attack, which allowed the Titans to claw their back and win 36-28.

The Gold Coast Bulletin’s player of the match was Faifai, who displayed incredible athleticism in both her attacking and defensive domains.

MATCH WRAP: Under-16 Grand Final - Tigers def Cougars 34-26

The Tigers have taken out the U16 State Titles division after defeating the Cougars 34-26.

The Tigers smothered the Cougars in the first half with quick feeds and strong shooting from 195cm tall goal shooter Tia Crombie.

Trailing by six in the final quarter, U17 Aussie squad member Gemma Hutchings tried her best to bring the Cougars back into the game, helping them climb back to within three goals.

But in the final minute, some excellent defence from the Tigers and inaccurate shooting from the Cougars helped them hold on to their lead.

The Gold Coast Bulletin’s player of the match was Tia Crombie for her terrific holding and accuracy under the post.
