The grand finallists have been decided after a massive day of finals action at the National Netball Championships in Frankston.

QLD (2nd) v VIC (3rd) - 19/U semi-final

Queensland were out for redemption in their semi-final against Victoria following a narrow four-goal loss during the week.

The message was delivered clearly with a 40-32 win leaving the Vics stunned.

Bolstered by three quick turnovers before halftime, the maroons’ third quarter made all the difference as they continued to surge.

A momentum shift with five minutes to play gave VIC some hope, but they were unable to pull back QLD’s growing lead.

Goal shooter Kaylin Van Greunen put on her best performance of the tournament, sinking 25 at 96% accuracy alongside goal attack Kirra Tappenden who shot 15 from 17.

The underdog victory means QLD will face NSW in Sunday’s State Of Origin-like grand final.

The last time QLD brought home gold in this age group, Sunshine Coast Lightning star Cara Koenen was three years away from making her SSN debut.

It’s safe to say the maroons are ready to break that drought.

WA (2nd) v VIC (3rd) - 17/U semi-final

A lapse in focus during the final quarter is all it took for Western Australia to capitalise on a three-goal lead and explode out to a 31-26 win over Victoria in the semi-final.

The grand final ticket means a chance at making history for WA, who are yet to win the under-17s age group.

WA head coach Guy Keane said it’s a super exciting prospect, having worked with most of this team during last year’s campaign as bottom-agers.

“Just to be able to see the growth and development over the past 18 months has been incredible,” Keane said.

“If we’re able to come away with the win, then I’m proud to be a part of it.”

The game was near goal-for-goal until the final term with both team’s shooters sticking between 80-90% accuracy.

Critical turnovers left Victoria scrambling with just four minutes to play, ultimately halting their chances of a late comeback.

“I know the style of Victorian netball and you can always expect a fight in every single contest. That’s what they delivered today,” Keane said.

“I think we just absorbed the pressure.

“Once we got our confidence back, we were able to find our groove and find those little openings.”

Arguably the underdogs, WA will go head-to-head with the undefeated SA in tomorrow’s grand final set for 12:40pm.

The last time they met, SA held on to win by one goal 29-28.

“We’ve done our homework on that game,” Keane said.

“We’ll go into that contest knowing we can put it up to them.

“We’re ready and excited.”

NSW (1st) v WA (4th) - 19/U first semifinal

A buzzer-beating goal from Georgie Cleaver saved WA’s campaign on day four, but that would be the easiest of tasks compared to dethroning the undefeated NSW.

With an attack end made up of two Suncorp Super Netball training partners and a third in defence, NSW came into the contest as favourites and lived up to expectations with a 39-29 win.

It wasn’t totally one sided, however, with WA sticking within the seven-goal difference of their first clash for most of the match.

WA looked somewhat better on paper, shooting at 88 per cent opposed to NSW’s 85 per cent.

But it was a wave of momentum late in the third quarter that made all the difference, as NSW converted two turnovers on top of their centre passes.

Head coach Tracey Brereton said it was great to get the win after boasting a successful campaign in the rounds.

“It all changes at finals and nothing is assured,” she said.

“It’s always a tough match against Western Australia.

“They’re physical, they’re well structured and knew we had to perform at our best.

“We’re very grateful to now be in that grand final.

“These girls have the confidence and ability to win.”

The win puts them straight onto the big dance against the winner of QLD and VIC to be decided later tonight.

NSW (4th) v SA (1st) - 17/U first semifinal

South Australia have held off a final quarter comeback from NSWto earn a spot in the gold medal match.

Unbeaten SA were the team to beat coming into this clash, with only three states coming within 12 goals in any of their preliminary games.

The two sides met in round 1 on Tuesday, where SA were victorious 43-30.

As clear underdogs NSW held their nerve for much of the game, at one point coming within two goals in the fourth quarter.

But it wasn’t enough to push SA out of their groove.

Goal attack Tahlia Jolly sunk 24 at 86 per cent accuracy under pressure.

“I just take a deep breathe and focus on what’s to come next,” she said

“You’ve got to put the shot up.”

The goal attack said she’s looking forward to playing in a national grand final.

“It’s been a long time coming and I’m really excited to just have that experience.”

They will now play the winner of WA and VIC in Sunday’s grand final to be played at 12:40pm.

New South Wales under-19s will enter semi-final Saturday at the National Netball Championships as clear favourites.

The sky blues have been a clear cut above the competition in Frankston, finishing the week undefeated and enter the finals full of running after a big win over the ACT on Friday.

NSW captain Monika ‘Otai and Nicola Barge have provided a powerful one-two punch throughout the week, while the side has proven its depth all week.

South Australia will enter the under-17 semi-finals as favourites after also finishing the regular rounds undefeated.

But it almost wasn’t to be for the red army, who had to rescue a late win in a one-point thriller against Queensland on Friday.

South Australia, who are captained by workhorse centre Summer Smith, will clash with NSW in the Under-17s semi-finals.

The semi-final action will all be played on the Show Court at Jubilee Park Stadium, with eight matches including four consolation finals in the morning, scheduled to be played.
