Insane goal from Kelvin Grove's Sierra McCaffrey

Livestreaming of the Schools Premier League football will continue with grand finals on Thursday after today’s feast of semi-finals.

The www.couriermail.com.au, Gold Coast Bulletin, Sunshine Coast Daily and News’ affiliates will livestream the finals from Lions FC Stadium.

Today’s bumper day of semi-finals featured teams from Albany Creek SHS, Kelvin Grove State College, Palm Beach Currumbin SHS, Chancellor State College and Helensvale SHS.

THE MATCHES

REPLAY: Kelvin Grove def Chancellor 2-1 (Junior girls)

Sierra McCaffrey scored an outrageous goal to send the Kelvin Grove State College junior girls into the grand final next week.

From way out near halfway, just to the left of centre, McCaffrey launched what what everyone thought was a speculative attempt which bounced into the back of the net.

The goal, scored into the breeze, gave Kelvin Grove a 2-nil advantage and entry into the grand final.

“She is an incredible young player and it is great to see her have moments like that,’’ said Kelvin Grove SC junior girls coach Jess Condon.

Earlier Jaci Plumpton broke a nil-all halftime scoreline with a goal early in the second half.

“I am most proud that we continued to fight right until the end,’’ said Condon said.

“We continued to fight and play quality football. I am really proud of them for maintaining that high quality.’’

It was a fantastic finale to the day, with McCaffrey’s amazing goal and Cavendish Road SC getting over the top of Kelvin Grove SC in the intermediate boys semi-final.

Cav Rd will now play Palm Beach Currumbin SHS after its 2-nil win, with Novak Kjajic shinning with a double in quick succession.

“The first half was good for us, we finished our chances to lead 2-nil and from there, the effort of the boys in the second half to keep their shape, keep their discipline and maintain their defensive structure showed in the end,’’ said Cavendish Road SHS coach Darryl Cash.

“That allowed us to play on the counter for a very short period of time.’’

Earlier, Palm Beach Currumbin SHS and Kelvin Grove State College confirmed they would be opponents in the junior boys grand final after wins in the morning.

PBC SHS defeated Chanellor State College 6-nil, while Kelvin Grove State College wore down Albany Creek to win 4-nil.

PBC SHS fired a shot across the bow of their rivals by creating four first half goals against Chancellor State College.

Striker Forbes Porter twice exploded into action to score a couple of goals on field 2, while threatening attacking mid-fielder Sho McCabe and Jackie Brown each pushed shots beyond the keeper’s grasp.

Importantly PBC SHS also maintained intensity off the ball, challenging Chancellor State College’s attack at every turn.

On field 1, Kelvin Grove State College’s Zac Fowler broke the Kelvin Grove v Albany Creek SHS clash wide open with two quick goals.

Both teams had gone toe to toe in an evenly matched encounter before Kelvin Grove’s Fowler struck just after halftime when he finished up lovely build-up.

That goal, early in the second half, was followed up by a second when, one on one with the keeper, he strode toward the box before slotting the ball into the right corner of the net.

In between he almost scored another goal, but his left footed strike was blocked.

Those goals by Fowler followed a lovely first half strike from Kelvin Grove’s Charbel Buller who snapped a first half nil-all deadlock.

Sayre Lotstutter then added another goal for Kelvin Grove SC.

Kelvin Grove State College Football Excellence Coordinator Jason Tobin praised Albany Creek SHS.

“You don’t make it to the semi-finals without being a good team and Paul (Albany Creek coach) has done a great job in their first year in the SPL,’’ Tobin said.

“And they troubled us. They have some big, strong boys and we are not exactly the biggest team in the world.

“The message to the boys was to move the ball quickly and let your technical ability take over.

“And as the game progressed and they got over the situation of it being a semi-final, the boys were good.’’

Helensvale SHS’s junior girls player Olivia Driene was in golden touch, delivering her side a 2-nil win in a local derby with Palm Beach Currumbin SHS.

Driene expertly rewarded his team’s build-up with two sublime strikes that elevated her team into the drivers seat - but not by much.

Helensvale SHS may have led 2-nil, but it was still anyone’s match into the second half.

Helensvale SHS coach Alex McKean said the win over PBC SHS was “one of our better performances of the year’’.

”We moved the ball really well and when we were going forward it was the best we have supported our front three.

“We created a lot of chances and I was just really pleased in terms of the whole team’s performance and effort and enthusiasm in defence.’’

The side will play the winner of the Kelvin Grove-Chancellor SC clash.

REPLAY: PBC def Chancellor 6-0 (Junior boys)

On field No.2 in boys action, PBC SHS’s Justin Handisides scored the winner in a bell-ringer of a semi-final against Chancellor State College.

PBC SHS led 2-1 at the break, after goals to Baily Manning and James Nimmo, but Chancellor State College locked it up 2-all before midfielder Handisides edged his team ahead.

“I was really proud of the intensity off the ball we showed,’’ said PBC SHS coach Shane Robinson.

“IT was one of the toughest and most intense games of football we have been involved in.’’

Harry Kerr: Chancellor’s captain, Kerr is a hard working midfielder who will never give up and who keeps trying to drive the team to success. He is a Sunshine Coast Fire under 13 representative.

Miles De Luca: The team’s striker, De Luca is a quick, direct striker who loves to dribble and has an eye for goal. He is a member of the Sunshine Coast Wanderers under 13s.

Oliver Hodgkins: A Sunshine Coast Fire player, Hodgkins is a creative midfielder who will look to get forward and create things in the final third.

Kelvin Grove State College

Harry Marshall: Marshall is a current member of the under 14 Brisbane Roar Academy. He is a dynamic attacking player who plays high in midfield and has lightening quick feet.

Albany Creek SHS:

Alec Kusemamuriwo. Albany Creek’s most standout player, Kusemamuriwo plays at number 10 and is a classy player who is comfortable on the ball. He has a great passing range and can score goals. Plays NPL with Moreton Bay

Casey English. Plays out of central defence. Although only Year 7, English is strong, with great positional sense.

Captain Jayden Cremonini: Cremonini plays as a holding midfielder and reads the game well and generally controls the midfield with fantastic vision and communication.

Sam Gridley. A left or right winger who is strong and powerful. Gridley relishes running at defenders in 1V1 situations.

Palm Beach Currumbin SHS

Forbes Porter: A striker with speed to burn who loves scoring goals, Forbes loves to get in behind defenders either through some clever combination play or taking his defender on, one-on-one. Porter always looks to put defenders under pressure, forcing them into uncomfortable positions.

Sho McCabe: McCabe is an attacking midfielder who loves having the ball at his feet. He effortlessly glides past defenders, creating overload situations that he can exploit with a killer pass. McCabe scores many goals pushing forward from midfield, linking cleverly with his attacking teammates.

Tristan Auffret: Auffret is a right winger who loves to get beyond defenders and supply pin point crosses or score spectacular goals. He has a wonderful engine which he uses to support his midfielders defensively before exploding forward to be part of the attack.

Chancellor State College

Katie Sherar: Sherar, the captain and midfielder, is strong and creative who can get forward and score goals. She is a QAS under 15s player.

Shilah Shatford: Shatford is a quick striker who has the ability to go past defenders. Shatford is a Beewah senior women’s player.

Natalia Verkade: This hard working midfielder can also play out wide. Verkade has great delivery from wide areas and has the ability to score goals. She is also a Beewah senior player.

Helensvale SHS

Chloe Camilleri: The Helensvale SHS captain and central midfielder has a large presence within the playing group on and off the field. A source of inspiration and confidence in midfield, the Coomera Colts FC player she has been a driving force in leading her team toward the SPL final.

Olivia Driene: Right winger Driene is fiercely competitive with an excellent goalscoring record in 2021. She is from the powerful Logan Lightning FC.

Zara Boyd: A centre back from Gold Coast United FC, she is a determined player who is both strong in the tackle and has the ability to break lines at speed.

Kelvin Grove State College

Sierra McCaffrey: McCaffrey currently plays with the QAS and is a versatile footballer playing in multiple positions. She is super composed on the ball and can play a defensive splitting pass easily.

Intermediate Boys

Chancellor State College

Dre Ngaha: The team captain, Ngaha is a composed centre back who is great on the ball.

Matt Bensaci: Creative midfielder Bensaci will look to control the game.

Marley Liau: A hard working box to box midfielder, Liau has the ability to dribble and cause issues in the final third. He is a Sunshine Coast Wanderers under 15s player.

Kelvin Grove State College

Rylan Brownlie: The Brisbane Roar striker will be a spearhead for Kelvin Grove SC on semi-final day. He comes into the finals having been one of the goal scoring trumps in the recently completed Bill Turner Cup. Brownlie plays in the under 16 Brisbane Roar Academy team despite the side being two years above his age group.

Palm Beach Currumbin SHS

Bailey Manning: Manning is PBC SHS’s leading goal scorer and has a habit of scoring outrageous goals. Quick, tough and very difficult to handle.

Justin Handisides: The box to box midfielder has an excellent technical ability and is particularly effective in one-on-one situations.

Beau Ross-Mitchell: A technically gifted goalkeeper, Ross-Mitchell has made some very crucial saves in 2021. He is excellent with his feet and calm under pressure.

Cavendish Road SHS

Novak Kljajic: A striker, Kljajic is his team’s leader in both goals scored and assists, showing that not only is he lethal in front of the goals, but also a creative, team orientated player.

Jamie Button: A tall but deceptively quick and silky winger, Button is able to glide past defenders. He has battled injuries over the last couple of years, but has come back better than ever.

Evan Lymbery: Lymbery is the squad’s spiritual leader. A centre back, he typically leads by example and is somewhat of a battering ram. He never leaves the pitch wondering if he could have tried harder and supports his teammates to get the best out of them.
