Reigning Phil Hall Cup champions Palm Beach Currumbin will again be one of the schools to beat in the tournament with halfback Zane Harrison returning to lead the team in the Langer Trophy.
Harrison, who was a linchpin to their attack last season, is fresh off being selected in the Queensland Schoolboys squad ahead of the ASSRL Nationals in July.
He wasn’t the only PBC player named in the Maroons squad with strike centre Sam Stephenson also getting the nod after a dominant state championship for South Coast.
But Palm Beach Currumbin will have to fight hard to take out the Langer Trophy for a second-straight year with Wavell State High and Marsden State High expected to suit up strong sides this season.
In the Northern half of the state reigning regional champions St Patrick’s Mackay will undergo a period of rejuvenation following the graduation of star attacking duo Xavier Kerrisk and Jaxon Purdue.
Perennial Payne Cup contenders Kirwan State High and Ignatius Park College will be determined to take back the tournament while the signs out of Cairns newcomers Trinity Bay and St Augustine’s College were positive last season.
The Dolphins Cup will be a wide-open race this season with St Brendan’s Yeppoon, The Cathedral College and Rockhampton Grammar School all expected to bring plenty of firepower to the competition along with Emmaus College.
Bundaberg State High has pulled out of the Dolphins Cup this season, but fellow Bundaberg contenders Shalom College have remained to test their mettle against their Rockhampton-based rivals.
The KommunityTV coverage includes all finals of the Opens and Year 10 competitions, leading to the NRL Schoolboys Cup National final on Wednesday, September 11.
