Gee Cup v Titans Cup live stream: St Mary’s College and Marymount chase Langer Trophy finals spot

The battle of the Gee Cup and Titans Cup champs, which was set for 5pm on Tuesday, will now not be going ahead after Marymount College were forced to forfeit.

A maiden Gee Shield win with a team packed full of players bound for NRL teams was just a stepping stone for a St Mary’s College outfit hoping to retake its place in the Langer Trophy schoolboys rugby league competition.

St Mary’s beat Mountain Creek 28-12 in the Gee Shield grand final last week and will now play Titans Cup champions Marymount on Tuesday, with the winner to be granted entry into the Langer Trophy finals.

The match will be LIVE STREAMED by KommunityTV across platforms including the Courier Mail, Toowoomba Chronicle and Gold Coast Bulletin. Game kick off is 5pm at Marsden State High.

A win in the quarter-finals, likely against the top finishing team, would mean St Mary’s cement their position in the top tier Langer Trophy tournament in 2024, bypassing the qualifiers that they were unsuccessful in earlier this year.

St Mary’s qualified for the Langer Trophy in 2020 and 2021 but dropped out in 2022.

St Mary’s sports director, Scott Cowan, said it was the school’s ambition to become a mainstayer of the Langer Trophy.

“It was great to win the Gee Shield. It is the second-tier competition and good to win, but it is a stepping stone to where we want to be as a college,” Cowan said.

“If we were able to then qualify and win a quarter-final, it would then certainly give us confidence knowing the direction our league program would take next year.

“We always build towards the qualifying day and there is a lot of pressure to perform on that one day.

“We know the Langer competition is at the top for schoolboys footy and we don’t undersell how tough it would be.

“But that is the direction we want to go as a school and we have been there before, so there is a lot of staff here who have seen the process before.”

St Mary's will prove hard to beat on Tuesday.

The St Mary’s side is brimming with talent, including a host of x-factors already signed by NRL clubs.

Playmaker Jake Durie has already been snapped up by the Canterbury Bulldogs and while he is out with a knee injury, Broncos talent Braithen Scott will feature in the halves alongside exciting edge backrower Bodhi Sharpley (Titans).

Queensland touch football representative Sam Sheppard will also pose one of Marymount’s biggest threats with his pace on the wing.
