Brisbane Broncos-signed ace Okalani Compton shapes as the star who will get Keebra Park’s offence in order in the team’s second Queensland Schoolgirls Cup game of the season.
Keebra Park State High School will play St James College in round 3 of the Cup at home on Tuesday in a game that will be streamed live and exclusive on Kommunity TV.
The powerhouse league school beat Mabel Park 24-10 in round 2 following a bye, with state and national representative Compton scoring twice from dummy half.
Coach Daniel Schwass warned an even better Keebra Park outfit would be on show this week.
“The key take outs from our first game were that we panicked with the ball a bit,” Schwass said.
“We were pushing the pass one too many times or we would see some space and throw a pass that didn’t need to be thrown.
“The pleasing thing is our defence. We did a lot of work over the first two terms around our defensive structures and processes and how physical we want to be. That came to the forefront.”
Keebra Park will go into the round 3 clash unchanged, with gun fullback Skyla Samson expected to return from a shoulder injury next week.
Schwass said Compton and centre Ava Kinikinilau, who also scored a double last week, were pivotal to the side’s chances this week.
“Okalani is a state and national dummy half and her experience and talent comes to the forefront,” Schwass said.
“She has flexibility and can play nine or 13. She has a big powerful body.”
