Despite coming so close to the title in 2024, Endeavour is keeping its expectations in check ahead of its schoolboys season opener against Farrer MAHS. Watch the match live on Tuesday.

Endeavour Sports High will be looking to bounce back quickly from last year’s Peter Mulholland Cup final defeat when it takes on Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School on Tuesday.

The NSW schoolboys season opener will be live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV from 12.30pm.

Bittersweet would be the best way to describe the 2024 season for the side from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire.

Despite matching it with the state’s best schools and playing some excellent football en route to the Peter Mulholland Cup decider, Endeavour ultimately fell at the final hurdle, going down to Patrician Brothers Blacktown 34-16 in the final.

And while seven from last year’s squad are returning for another crack at the NRL National Schoolboy Cup, the team isn’t fixated on a shot at grand redemption ahead of its round one clash with Tamworth’s Farrer.

“We haven’t talked about winning trophies or anything like that,” said coach Dave Howlett.

“Everything is just about getting better every training session. We know we’re not going to be ready to win the national Schoolboy Cup tomorrow and while we’re hopeful that the team will be there when the finals come around, we haven’t talked about anything other than our first game and being as good as we can be there.”

Led by 2024 Australian Schoolboy representative and Cronulla Sharks junior rep lock forward Thomas Dellow, Endeavour will have the advantage of consistency and experience when it takes to the field at Woy Woy Oval, with seven of the 17-man squad having already experienced senior schoolboy football in previous years.

“We’ve had a lot of stability in our coaching staff for a number of years now,” said Howlett. “There’s a system in place and the boys come through. It’s all cyclical, all the boys wait their turn and once they get to the senior years they get their chance at it.

“This year the difference is that we’ve got more year 12s in the team than we’ve had. We’ve had young teams over the past couple of years and some of the boys are in their third year of playing senior footy,” he added.

“They’ve all been training really well and working really hard but with the Schoolboy Cup you don’t know how strong the other teams are going to be so we’re hopeful we’ll play well (against Farrer).”

Endeavour’s clash with Farrer will be one of three matches live streamed from Woy Woy Oval on Tuesday, before a further four are broadcast from Ringrose Park on Wednesday.

KommunityTV will be the only place to watch all the Peter Mulholland Cup action live.
