The Tully Tigers have moved within a point of the top four on the back of a 16-point win over Innisfail Leprechauns.

The Tigers moved a step closer to squaring the ledger, now boasting a win-loss record of 5-6 after their 28-12 win at Callendar Park in round 12 of the FNQRL A Grade competition.

Tepoutokomanawa Matatahi Talitonu opened the scoring for Tully in the 12th minute before the Leprechauns responded through Johann Turner in the 18th minute.

From there it was all one-way traffic with Dujuayne Sua-Bacon among the tryscorers who gave the Tigers a 16-6 lead at halftime.

Reece Winston and Emmanuel Mukindi both crossed for Tully in the second half, with Aaron Jolley the only one to score for Innisfail in the final 40 minutes.

A pivotal A-grade clash looms in the Far North Queensland Rugby League this weekend as a pair of southern rivals go to battle.

Innisfail Leprechauns will play host to arch rivals Tully Tigers in a match which will be live streamed right here on KommunityTV.

While this clash always carries a bit of extra feeling, there are important implications for both team’s finals chances riding on the outcome.

With both sitting on 10 competition points, just two shy of fifth-placed Ivanhoes, a win could be enough to catapult either of them right into the finals picture.

On the other hand, a loss could prove disastrous, especially for the Leps whose -32 point differential could prove a handicap as they look to make a late-season rally.

The A-grade action will kick off at 6pm from Callendar Park, and will be preceded by live streams of the under-19s (3pm) and reserves (4.30pm).
