Queensland has reigned supreme on a huge grand final day for the host state at the 2025 ASSRL National Championships.
The Maroons took out both the under-16 girls and under-15 boys trophies – the former a heart-stopping golden point thriller – in Townsville on Friday.
Victoria meanwhile stormed home to defeat the Goannas in the Pool B decider.

Queensland 18 v NSW CIS 14 (U16 Girls - Grand Final)
When Queensland’s Tah’ Lucy Querro took the ball just past her halfway line in golden point extra time she had just one thing on her mind – split the defence wide open.
And that is exactly what the Kirwan State High talent did, breaking through the NSW CIS wall to set up Shyloh Tofae to cross for the matchwinning try.
The 18-14 triumph thanks to Querro and Tofae’s heroics capped a stirring revival from the Maroons.
They trailed by a try in the dying minutes of regular time before prop Carayanidis Ta’Akimoeaka-Pulu levelled the scores to send it to golden point.
Both sides laid desperate, try-saving tackles in extra time in what was a heart-stopping affair with the likes of Cobi Ryan-Last and Coco Butcher doing their best to snatch victory for CIS.
However, spurred on by a lively Townsville home crowd, the Queenslanders had the run in their legs and the calm to finish with precision when it mattered.
NSW CCC 12 – Queensland Maroon 18 (U16 Boys Pool A - Grand Final)
A tough Queensland Maroon outfit has held off a valiant NSW Combined Catholic Colleges in a tight and tense decider.
The two sides were locked on 12 points apiece at the break but it was the hosts who showed more grit and determination than their southern rivals to win 12-18.
It was an opportunistic snipe from dummy half by hooker Tyson Tai 12 minutes into the second half that proved the difference.
Ike Bilish looked to have almost crossed for the Queenslanders before a nonchalant Tai threw a quick dummy and went under two NSW defenders for what would be the matchwinner.
But it was not a simple victory from there as the Maroons repelled attacks right up to the final siren.
Earlier, CCC looked to have the hosts on toast as they scored four minutes in when star five-eighth Sam Large put Brody Watson over.
Large was then heavily involved again, nailing an impressive 40/20 before throwing a nice cut out pass in the ensuing set to put Lucas Bentham through in the corner.
But the Maroons found their fight when second-rower Kyanu Seiuli showed his power to fight through four defenders and put his side on the board.
A Cruz Molo try evened things up on the eve of half-time before Tai and his Queensland teammates wrapped up the national title on home soil after the break.
Goannas 16 – Victoria 24 (U15 Boys Pool B - Grand Final)
Victoria has staged a brilliant victory to claim the John Allen Trophy over the Goannas in the U15 Boys Pool B Grand Final.
Trailing by two points midway through the second half in the decider, the Victorians stormed home late to prevail 16-24 in an enthralling, seesawing clash.
A miracle offload from Detroit Mailelaa set up Sione Finau for his second try of the day to put the boys in navy blue in front.
Then, with just minutes remaining, Victoria quickly spread to the left from a scrum and Jesse Mika scored in the corner to seal victory.
It capped a terrific turnaround from the Vics, who were beaten 20-4 by the Goannas in their pool game clash earlier in the week.
Marice Newfeldt and Duntae Seufatu were Victoria’s other try scorers while Sailor Ryan, with a brilliant spin move, Nullah Baker and Trent Sellin crossing for the Goannas.
