The host state of the 2025 Emerging Matildas Championships dominated the results on semi-final day on Saturday, with three New South Wales sides qualifying for Sunday’s grand finals.
It was the perfect result for Football NSW, with a NSW-based side now guaranteed to win at least one title come Sunday night.
Both NSW Sky U15 and U16 outfits qualified, while Northern NSW also did enough to ensure they’d meet the Sky in the U16 grand final.

SEMI-FINALS LIVE UP TO HYPE
While each semi-final presented different results, it’s fair to say they all lived up to the hype in one way or another.
NSW Sky’s U15 outfit made light work of NSW Navy in their intrastate semi-final battle, knocking them off 4-1.
NSW Sky peppered the Navy defence early and scored the first in the 23rd minute through Tessa Young, and the floodgates opened in the second half as Sky put through three goals in rapid time before a late consolation penalty from Navy.
Northern NSW produced a memorable comeback to defeat Queensland Maroon 4-1, after initially being down 1-0.
Queensland Maroon opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Alexis Ritchie, but Northern NSW responded in a flash with a goal either side of halftime from Mayan Harkness and Mackenzie Preston-Poole.
Preston-Poole found the back of the net again in the 54th minute, with Sunny Alston’s 52nd minute major meaning it was 4-1 with just minutes remaining.
The first U16 semi-final was all one way traffic, with an impressive NSW Sky dominating from start to finish against Capital Football.
An incredibly potent attacking group made it difficult for Capital to gain any momentum, with a 2-0 halftime lead enough to keep Capital at bay heading into the second-half.
The second U16 semi-final was far and away the highlight clash of the day, with Queensland Maroon and Victoria Blue battling it out all the way to a penalty shootout.
Neither side could find the back of the net after 60 minutes, meaning the Maroon’s U16 side would become the second Queensland side to decide their fate in a shootout in as many days.
But unlike the U15 side that won through on Friday, the U16 Maroons failed at the final hurdle in a memorable 5-3 shootout result.
PREVIEW
New South Wales will dominate the semi-final fixtures on Day 5 of the Emerging Matildas Championships, with four different sides from the host state set to compete in do-or-die games on Saturday.
After four days of thrilling football across both the Under-15 and Under-16 divisions, just eight teams remained entering Saturday in the hunt to be crowned 2025 Emerging Matildas Champions.
Four of those teams hail from New South Wales, with NSW Sky (U15 & U16), NSW Navy (U15) and Northern NSW (U15) all featuring in the semi-finals following quarter-final wins on Friday.
All four semi-final matches will form part of KommunityTV’s broadcast, with all the action available live and exclusive across three fields from 9am.
The semi-final matches kick off from 10.40am on Field 1.
U15 NSW Sky made light work of NSW Navy in their intrastate semi-final battle, knocking them off 4-1.
NSW Sky peppered the Navy defence early and scored the first in the 23rd minute, and the floodgates opened in the second half as Sky put through three goals in rapid time before a late consolation penalty from Navy.

Northern NSW put the icing on the cake with two late goals to secure a grand final berth.
NSW Sky’s U16 side will host Capital Football in the first U16 semi while Queensland Maroon and Victoria Blue will clash in the other – which doubles as the only non-NSW semi-final on Saturday.
NSW Sky will head in as favourites against NSW Navy after a 5-0 win over Malaysia, with Navy defeating Victoria Blue 2-1 to qualify for the semi-finals.
Queensland Maroon may be the side heading into semi-finals with the most confidence, with the Maroons producing a thrilling penalty shootout win over Queensland White on Friday.

Capital knocked off Charles Perkins XI 1-0 to qualify for the semi-finals.
Victoria Blue defeated Northern NSW 3-2 in Friday’s quarter-finals, while Queensland Maroon’s 5-1 win over Victoria White ensured it wouldn’t be an all-Victorian semi-final.
