REPLAYS
GIRLS CHAMP DIV: Palm Beach Currumbin v Mountain Creek SHS
Palm Beach Currumbin have finished their pool stage with a victory after a 15-point win over the Sunshine Coast’s Mountain Creek State High School to start day three of the CBSQ livestream.
PBC had one win to their name against Capalaba on day one heading into the clash with Mountain Creek but the Gold Coast school had pushed several of the competition’s top teams, only to fall short at the end.
But this one they dominated from the start, to finish their round robin stages on a high note.
Cyra Illiuk top scored with 16 points while Indian Bowyer had 12 for PBC.
BOYS CHAMP DIV QF: Brisbane State High School v Churchie
Brisbane State High School have knocked out the defending CBSQ champions Churchie following a dominant 43-point victory in this morning’s quarterfinal.
It was always going to be a tough ask for Churchie against State High, who are regarded as the top title contenders along with TSS, but CJ Bruton’s side fought hard early, staying within 10 points for majority of the first half as big man Harrison Pennisi and Quin Lambert did all they could to keep their team in the game.
But the overall depth of talent shines through for State High, who completely ran over last year’s champions in the second half, as five players scored in double figures to end Churchie’s hopes of moving on to a semi-final.
Jalen Blanchard led the scoring for State High with 24 points, including four three-pointers, while Elijah Kamu (19 points), Xavier Chio (17 points), Mason Amos (15 points) and Abass Bodija (11 points) also reached double figures.
Pennisi was impressive for Churchie with 24 points while Lambert had 17.
The win sets up a GPS showdown in the semi-final with State High going up against St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace tonight for a spot in the championship game.
