With strong support from Wil Rantall (12 points, nine rebounds) and Ben Waller (11 points) off the bench, the Victorian Country side cruised to a 84-46 win over Northern Teritory.

The Victorian’s led from bell-to-bell in the contest, and made the flagging NT side pay in a brutal final quarter in which they outscored their rivals 24-8.

Northern Territory big man Lachlan O’Brien was the best for his side finishing with a 14 point, 12 rebound double-double along with three steals and two blocks.

It capped off a massive day of action on the showcourt at South Pine Sports Complex which included a cracking battle between girls frontrunners NSW Metro and Queensland South.

Queensland turned up strong in the contest, and even got themselves within touching distance of their rivals with a dynamic 21-point third term, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the might of the undefeated sky blues.

Emma Petrie was the focal point of the Queensland effort finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds in a comprehensive display.

Two games, two wins, 197 points and everybody firing ... the start of the U18 nationals couldn’t be going better for the NSW Metro girls.

After threatening to break the century-mark on day one against ACT, they did so in the final stages of Monday’s hugely-impressive win over Western Australia Metro – and, ominously for rivals, the whole team got in on the scoring act.

KEEP UP WITH LATEST FROM THE UNDER-18 NATIONALS

Four players got into double figures, led by Lucy Mead and Freya Bijkerk with 17 points each, while the other six scored five points or more. They shot at an incredible 57 per cent from the floor.

It’s excellent form to take into their first real test of the tournament on Tuesday, a showdown against the hosts, Queensland South on court one at South Pine from 1pm (EST).

While the boys showdown between Victoria Country and Northern Territory from 5.30pm will feature some quality players - and a lot of points - the other two girls encounters are arguably far more important for finals purposes.

Queensland North badly need a win to kickstart their campaign after two straight losses – and they face a Western Australia Country who are sneaking a bit under the radar.

Amelia Corasaniti has really impressed in her two games for Western Australia Country – and is leading the way at both ends of the floor.

The game at 3pm (EST) features a Western Australia Metro side in need of a victory up against Australian Capital Territory.
