Selectors for the 2026 South Australian state sides are set to have an even bigger headache after another strong day of action at the SANFL Girls U15 and U17 Intrastate Carnival.
Three days of high quality football culminated in four thrilling contests across both age-groups on Thursday.
In the first match of the day, it was South Adelaide that secured a tight 10-point win over Woodville-West Torrens in the under-15s before the Eagles’ under-17 outfit secured a three-point comeback win.
The 5.6 (36) to 4.9 (33) win came after a goal in the final minute of play.
In the afternoon match-ups, it was Glenelg that won both match-ups over West Adelaide by 33 points in the under-15s and 25 in the under-17s.

A comeback win from Norwood in the under-17s clash was the highlight of results on day two of the SANFL Girls U15 and U17 Intrastate Carnival.
In the first match-up on Wednesday, Norwood’s under-15 outfit followed on from an impressive opening day to register a 3.6 (24) to 2.3 (15) win over Central Districts.
The Redlegs led at every change and despite a strong challenge from the Bulldogs, they were able to walk away with another impressive win.
In the under-17 clash between the two clubs, it was Norwood that pulled off a come-from-behind win over Central Districts with a goal in the final two minutes.
They won the match 2.9 (21) to 2.3 (15).
The results in the Sturt v North Adelaide clashes ended in an even split between the two clubs with Sturt winning the under-15 clash – 2.5 (17) to 1.5 (11) and North Adelaide victors in the under-17s – 4.3 (27) to 3.3 (21).

TUESDAY’S WRAP
Glenelg secured two impressive wins on the opening day of the SANFL under-15 and under-17 Girls Intrastate Carnival on Monday.
In a strong sign of the talent set to compete across the next three days, each of the four clubs – Woodville West-Torrens, Glenelg, Norwood and Sturt all secured at least one win across the two age groups.
In the day’s opening game, Glenelg’s under-15s secured an impressive 7.10 (52) to 0.2 (2) win over Woodville West-Torrens before the under-17 battle between the two clubs ended in a 3.7 (25) to 3.4 (22) win for the Eagles.
Asha Gooley finished with two majors in the win while Mayah Edwards was named best afield.
In the Norwood and Sturt match-ups, it was the Redlegs that walked away 46-point winners in the under-15s while Sturt claimed a 9.6 (60) to 3.2 (20) victory in the under-17 clash despite Norwood’s Lillian Thomas booting three goals.

South Australia’s most promising young female talents will be intent on showcasing their best with a new era of women’s football in the state on the horizon.
SANFL U15 and U17 Girls Intrastate Carnival is set to kick off from October 7 with 12 matches across three days live and exclusive on KommunityTV.
A key component of the SANFL talent development pathway, the tournament provides the opportunity for the best underage girls to be nominated for the South Australian State Academies in 2026.
But the 2025 edition will also double as the chance for many more players to impress ahead of the inaugural SANFL U18 Girls competition, set to begin in March 2026.
“The annual SANFL Girls U15 and U17 Intrastate Championships is an integral part of the SANFL talent development pathway,” SANFL Talent Manager (Female Programs) Robbie Neill said.
“The preliminary development squad matches and three-day carnival provides the best metropolitan and country underage players with the opportunity to be nominated for South Australian State Academies in 2026.
“The high standard also allows the eight SANFL Clubs to observe the players’ performance against quality opposition before assembling their underage lists for future competition.
“This year’s carnival also will be an important forerunner to the inaugural SANFL U18 Girls competition, commencing in March 2026, which will comprise of seven rounds and a finals series.”
A number of talented players are set to line up across both age-groups, with Izabella Nisbet (Central District) and Mia Wood (Norwood) headlining the U15 crop.
Asha Lehmann (North Adelaide), Maya Vonarx (Glenelg), Isabella Gray (Sturt) and Scarlett Blethyn (West Adelaide) will also certainly catch the eye, as will small forwards Jaidee-Lee Shortridge (South Adelaide) and Anika Tran (Eagles) who are U15’s playing in the U17 age group.
In the U17’s, 2025 State U18 Squad member Jyearah Newchurch (Central District) will excite the crowd with her speed, as will State U16 Squad members Lillian Thomas and Lia So (Norwood).
