Lindisfarne set up an intriguing qualifying final against SFL minor premiers Cygnet after beating Huonville Lions by 39 points.

Down by 19 points at halftime, the Two Blues rallied superbly to win 18.8 (116) to 11.11 (77).

Huonville now face Brighton in next weekend’s elimination bout after the Robins ended Sorell’s season with a 30-point success.

PREVIEW

Lindisfarne gun Ed Stanley has been the toast of the SFL this week after his record-equalling performance.

Recruited from TSL club Lauderdale at the start of the season, Stanley booted 18 goals last weekend to equal the competition record for the most goals in a game.

But he now has to put it behind him as he aims to play a key role in the Two Blues’ flag push, which starts with a qualifying final against Huonville Lions on Saturday afternoon.

Catch the game LIVE and EXCLUSIVE as part of a huge day of finals action on KommunityTV that includes games from two venues.

In the other Senior Men’s game, Brighton face Sorell in the elimination final. The Robins will go into the match full of confidence on the back of three wins in their last five games, one of which was a 38-point dismissal of Sorell.

The coverage also features two women’s games, with the Div 1 contest between Clarence and Lauderdale as well as the New Norfolk v University Div 2 showdown.

But the the big game of the day is the Two Blues v Lions and Aidan Webster, for one, can’t wait to see Stanley’s impact again on Saturday.

“Ed has been a great pick up for our club, not just as a player but as a leader,” said the Lindisfarne skipper.

“Especially me as a first time captain, still pretty young, he’s been a good shoulder to lean on. He’s a ripping bloke as well.

“I hate to say it, because he’ll love it, he’s pretty much the full package. He’s a leader, a good bloke and a good footy player. He’s been great to have on board.

“We were trying to get him to 20, we thought he actually had 19.”

Lindisfarne will enter the game as favourites having got the better of the Lions in their two previous meetings this season.

The Lions are still being driven by the disappointment of last year’s grand final loss, according to vice-captain Rhys Ward.

“It’s certainly still there, it’s a thought on a lot of people’s minds,” he said.

“Even if it’s not spoken about, it’s giving us that extra bit of drive.”

Meanwhile, SFLW big guns New Norfolk and University have been trading jovial barbs in the lead-up to their elimination bout.

Back in round 4, the two sides played out a draw.

“In all respect to Uni we played some pretty poor footy that day,” New Norfolk star Zoie Crawford said.

“It was the kick we needed to get our season going again. And from there on we’ve played good footy.”

But University star Bonnie Grynglas is confident her side’s best will be enough.

“If we work together, we’re a pretty unstoppable side, looking forward to proving that again,” Grynglas said.

“The last few training sessions, the girls have gone up a gear, so I’m looking forward to seeing how that translates on the ground.”
