After a huge day of finals action, Padua College has stood tall to clinch the Herald Sun Shield Division 2 Intermediate girls crown, and they did it in emphatic fashion. Watch all the REPLAYS from the finals day.

Padua College came, saw and conquered all before them to win a second-straight Herald Sun Shield Division 2 Intermediate girls title.

The girls from Padua proved unstoppable across a big day of action at Casey Fields on Tuesday, not conceding a point in the grand final against Luther College.

Padua did most of the damage in the first half of the grand final, but scrapped well in their defensive end to cap off a 4.7 (31) to 0 shut out.

After cruising through the pool stages undefeated, including a first up win over their grand final rivals, Padua’s clean hands and raw pace through the midfield transition proved the difference in the decider.

Gabby Mehrmann, who was part of the Padua College side which won last year’s grand final, booted two majors in the grand final while Isla Paris’ goal immediately after halftime proved the match-sealer.

Padua College has a chance to reclaim it’s Intermediate Division 2 title glory as the Herald Sun Shield heads to Casey Stadium on Tuesday.

Padua College will be one of the favourites to take out the girls Intermediate Division 2 crown, which will be contested in a six team finals round robin.

Padua College overcame the odds when they took down a high-flying Our Lady of Sion College in last year’s final, and they will need to do it again as they come up against five of the fastest rising school sides in the state.

The challengers to the Division 2 Intermediate girls title include Luther College, Yarra Valley Grammar, Bacchus Marsh Grammar, Salesian College Sunbury and Our Lady of Mercy College.

The six teams have been split into two pools, with teams facing off across three 30-minute round matches. The top two sides in each pool will progress to the semi-finals, with the bottom two sides battling it out in cross-pool elimination matches.

The two sides left standing after the semi-finals will contest a grand final to be crowned the best Division 2 school side in the state.
