After knocking off Stuartholme School in the first round of finals, St Teresa’s Catholic College head coach Kellie Barker said her side was eager to get back on the field.

“The girls have really enjoyed it, we’re still growing as a team and as individuals each match, but I’m really proud to have made it this far,” she said.

“To now get the chance to play on home soil is very exciting.

“We’re taking a supporters bus down with students, friends, parents and other local footy fans, so hopefully that will help get them across the line.”

Barker’s side could be set for some sustained success as well, with just three players finishing up at the end of the year.

“We’ve got about 14 Year 10 players in our senior side this year. Last year when they were in the junior division, we were knocked out in the SEQ finals by Palm Beach Currumbin,” she said.

“Majority of the girls play for the Noosa Tigers, some with the Maroochydore Roos, three from rugby and two that have never played Aussie rules before.”

St Teresa’s will play Varsity College in their semifinal match on Friday afternoon before taking on either Palm Beach Currumbin or The Cathedral College in the decider on Sunday.

Captain Isabella Fernandez said she was proud of his side’s journey to the finals.

“We’ve gelled really well, especially since a lot of us had never played together before, but with each win we’ve grown in confidence and our coaches have been really positive,” she said.

“Playing at Peoples First Stadium for the first round of finals was amazing, but it’s also pretty cool to now be playing at home.

“We’re definitely expecting some talented opposition players, which will make it tough, but I also think we’re a bit of a surprise packet team, so hopefully we’ll go alright.”
