Old Scotch are poised for minor premiership honours after edging out St Kevin’s in the VAFA Premier Women’s battle of the top two on Saturday.

Both sides have set a hot pace out in front this season and came into the match with an identical 16-1 record.

Old Scotch got the early jump with goals from Millie Fraser-Smith and Eloise Defina, but their scoring dried up and St Kevin’s took a 14-12 lead into the final quarter.

Georgia Fraser-Smith got the scoreboard ticking over again early in the fourth quarter for the Cardinals and three late behinds proved enough for them to emerge with a 21-16 success.

PREVIEW

Finals time has come early in the VAFA Premier Women’s competition.

The competition’s top two sides, St Kevin’s and Old Scotch, will face on Saturday in a game which will likely decide the minor premiership.

The undefeated Saints currently hold a one-game advantage at the top of the ladder after winning the previous meeting between the two sides.

Saturday’s game, which many believe is a grand final preview, will be streamed LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on KommunityTV through the Herald Sun website at 2pm.

The reserves game will also be showcased from 11.40am.

Both sides will be littered with stars across the afternoon who could make a difference for their side.

Among them are the competition’s leading goalkickers in Old Scotch sharpshooter Eloise Defina and St Kevin’s superboot Hannah Smith.

Defina currently leads allcomers with 27 for the season and kicked one goal the last time these two sides met.

Smith, meanwhile, will be looking to make a bigger impact after being held goalless.

Also among the players to keep an eye on are St Kevin’s superstar Bree Doyle, who again represented the Big V this season.

Consistently Doyle has been among the best players not just for her side but across the competition.

Emily Condon, Kate Stanton and Zara Guss are among the others to keep an eye on for the ladder leaders.

Mia Caffry, Bella Gray and Jade Wise will be pivotal for the Cardinals if they are to stake their claim for the minor premiership.
