PLYMPTON COMPLETES PERFECT SEASON

The Plympton U12 Div 1 girls completed their perfect season by claiming their flag to open proceedings at Hisense Stadium.

Coming into the game with a perfect 13-0 regular season record, the Bulldogs were the hot favourites over Henley Sharks Blue and asserted their dominance early in the contest.

Lola Dercho broke the game open with the first two goals, including a booming set shot to have Plympton ahead 15-0 at the first change.

Amarli Ryan and Charlee Boyd helped extend the margin, before Grace Morrissey capped off a brilliant first half by taking the ball out of the ruck and kicking a goal just before halftime to give them a handy 36-point buffer.

A second major to Morrissey gave the Bulldogs a hot start to the third term, and when Sophia O’Sullivan toed through another Plympton was not for catching.

In the end they ran out convincing 8.9 (57) to 1.2 (8) winners, with Henley’s Cleo Paterson kicking a goal on the siren.

TEA TREE GULLY’S DEFENCE HOLDS STRONG

Tea Tree Gully Red has claimed the U14s Boys Division 1 title after a strong 6.9 (45) to 1.9 (15) defeat of Gepps Cross.

The Wolves entered the decider as the dominant side with a 12-1 record through the regular season, with Gepps Cross having to walk the tightrope, defeating Henley and Walkerville in elimination games to book their place.

The Rams struck the scoreboard first with two behinds, before Tex Clark kicked the opening goal in incredible fashion, booting it from 70m and beating the defenders through the big sticks.

It sparked a run for the Wolves with Tyler Burrell and captain Jacob Westley capitalising on defensive errors to help them kick the first three goals.

Elliot Gauci helped Gepps Cross cut into the margin with the last kick of the first quarter providing their first goal.

Tea Tree Gully’s Malik Osman got the fans out of their seats with a booming 35m set shot to push their lead out further again in what would prove to be the only goal in the second term, as they held onto a 15-point lead.

The defence of both sides was on full display in the third quarter with just four behinds kicked between the two sides heading into the last minute, before Gauci kicked his second with a nice snap close to goal to give the Gullies one hand on the trophy heading into the fourth.

The result was sealed midway through the final quarter when Chase Norris held his nerve from range to secure the flag.
