Eastern Ranges title hunt is alive and well in the Coates League after a spirited captain’s knock helped them get past the Knights in a quarter-final cracker. Watch the REPLAY.

Inspirational leader Georgie Brisbane has powered the Eastern Ranges into the Coates Talent League semi-finals.

Brisbane kicked two goals and two behinds as the Ranges squeezed past a valiant Northern Knights 5.15 (45) to 5.4 (34) at Shepley Oval.

The Ranges fought hard early to put scores on the board, shooting out to a 16-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Ranges extended that to a 24-point lead at the half after booting back-to-back two-goal quarters to start the game.

But the fight was always going to come from the Knights.

The Knights kicked four goals to one in the second half, and mounted a spirited comeback before Brisbane landed the decisive blow only minutes out from full-time.

The courageous captain led an all-star cast for the Ranges, while Grace Baba (21 disposals) at halfback and Grace Belloni (26 disposals) in the midfield made their presence felt on both sides of the ball.

Knights bottom-ager Holly Ridewood scored a well-deserved consolation goal on the final siren but it was too little too late for her side.

Eastern Ranges will be looking to star halfback and Victorian Metro representative Jordy Allen as they enter a fierce finals confrontation with rivals Northern Knights.

The pair, who finished with an equal 10-4 record across the season, will head into the Coates Talent League finals evenly matched on paper and on the field.

While the Ranges might have the wood over their rivals, prevailing by seven points in the only meeting between the pair, that was back in Round 2 and a lot has changed since that day.

One thing that hasn’t change though is the impact of Allen on the contest.

The Heathmonth product featured in the Ranges’ best that day – and has done on 11 occasions this season – equal-most of any player in the competition. Touted as a high halfback, Allen’s skills by hand and foot, along with her run and carry are key strengths according to Eastern Ranges talent manager Danny Ryan.

Georgia Knight, who hails from Monbulk, has led the way in attack for the Ranges this season with 24 goals from 13 matches – just one major off topping the comp.

The key forward could well be a draft prospect this season, showing versatility by providing bursts through the midfield, efficiency with skills on both sides and sound aerial work.

But the Knights boast plenty of weapons, too.

Half-forward Zoe Hargreaves has been one of many standouts this year across 13 matches for six mentions in the best – also cracking a VFLW match for Carlton where she impressed, alongside a state guernsey for Vic Metro.

Meanwhile, Kira Lemire has tipped in a leading 18 goals from 14 games – including three each against Sandringham, Oakleigh Chargers and the Calder Cannons.

It’s third versus fourth – and if last time’s clash is any guide, viewers are in for a treat.
