Queensland schoolboys Chris Faagutu, Haizyn Mellars and Coby Black made a triumphant return to Dolphin Oval as Marsden SHS restarted its engines for a renewed Langer Trophy campaign.
Marsden SHS beat Redcliffe SHS 42-0 after leading 24-0 at halftime, with a 95m individual try by winger Mellars one of the high points on a cold, wet afternoon.
Just days ago Faagutu, now also an Australian schoolboy selection, Mellars and Black helped the Queensland schoolboys win the national championship last week, a carnival held at Redcliffe, so the bayside footy ground has turned into a happy hunting ground for the trio.
Halfback Black pulled the trigger on the firing pin to help unlock a Marsden side which scored three excellent left edge tries.
Black’s goal kicking in the rain and slush was also a highlight, as was Marsden’s ball handling in the conditions. Black finished with a 100 per cent record.
Coach Matt Hartigan would also have been pleased with the defence, keeping the opposition to nil.
Redcliffe’s on the job education continued and with every passing experience, the players will be gaining valuable knowledge.

ROUND 4 FORM GUIDE; THE ROAD AHEAD
It was always going to be a tough assignment against a revved up Marsden on the rebound, particularly without injured forward leaders Jayden Alefaio and John Fineanganofo.
But they had some small wins, and the school which has produced two of the three top Queensland schoolboys - Karl Oloapu (Wavell SHS) and Rob Toia (Nudgee College) - will enjoy brighter days ahead because of the foundation this brave group have carved out with sweat and toil.
LANGER RESERVES
Marsden Reserves five-eight Mark Nosa gave his side the edge in a tough clash won 28-10 by the Makos.
Nosa scored one try and brilliantly set up a second which was the difference between two competitive sides.
His creation of Te Ariki Kowhai’s try after a Cory Pearse dummy half run was a bit special and edged his side ahead 18-6.
Redcliffe were never going to lay down, and only minutes later were back in the hunt 18-10 after Thomas White burrowed over for the Eagles.
But an inside ball 15 minutes from full time out Marsden edge forward Cairo Rangihuna-Ruri a 50m run to the line which was a down payment on victory.
Redcliffe scored right on halftime to make it 12-6, with interchange forward Ajay Sopoaja.
In the rain Marsden SHS got out to a 12-nil advantage with two tries and two excellent goals in the conditions by Cory Pearse.
Impressive five-eight was one of the try scorers
Meanwhile, in the DeVere Cup, Redcliffe defeated Alexandra Hills 24-4.
Despite the score line it was a competitive match although Redcliffe had a little more polish and fire power.
It was 8-nil into the second half when Redcliffe winger Sieth Reid scored after bursting through three defenders.
At 12-nil Alex Hills players were defending to stay in the game.
Having shortened their defensive line they were defending Redcliffe’s ruck runs but a wide shift caught them out, with Redcliffe edge forward scoring from 15m out to out the match to bed.
To Alex Hills credit they scored last.
Meanwhile, Marsden played Caloundra in the Walters Cup at Caloundra, but due to filming issues at the venue, the game was not be broadcast by KommunityTV. We apologise for the inconvenience.
