Hunter Pence-Erin Andrews interview gets really weird

IT WAS already awkward enough. But then the interviewee made things even worse by apologising for making it so damn awkward.

BASEBALL’S 2014 World Series has only just begun but it’s already shaping up as one of the weirdest.

From Lorde’s song Royals being banned from the airwaves, to players getting addicted to video games, the San Francisco Giants-Kansas City Royals match-up has had no shortage of unusual storylines.

And now a really awkward interview is making headlines in the States, featuring Giants outfielder Hunter Pence and Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews, which you can see below.

“You told us today the theme would kind of be there’s nothing to fear,” Andrews said to Pence after San Francisco’s 7-1 win in game one of the seven game series.

“You just handed the Royals their first loss of the postseason, you absolutely took this crowd out of it. What’s the next message in that clubhouse?”

That’s when things got weird. Pence felt he had been misquoted and pulled a strange face.

“Yeah, that wasn’t the message, and I wasn’t the speaker. It was actually (pitcher Santiago) Casilla,” Pence said.

Andrews tried to clarify the situation.

“You said that was the theme, right?”

“Nah, I said make your peace with the King of kings and enjoy it,” Pence added.

The pair were able to move forward, but Pence only made it more awkward by apologising for making it awkward.

Lorde’s song “Royals” has been banned by San Francisco radio stations during the World Series.

Earlier in the week it was reported that two San Francisco radio stations had benched Lorde’s chart-topping single Royals from their airwaves until either the Giants or the Kansas City Royals won the World Series.

It also emerged that Kansas City’s World Series campaign was almost derailed by players spending too much time playing the video game Clash of Clans rather than preparing for games.

And just before yesterday’s game one, a lucky waiter was left a World Series ticket as a tip by Royals player Wade Davis’ wife.

“I started to walk away when I dropped off their check after they paid, and they said, ‘Hold on, I was going to give you a tip, but instead we thought you might want this,” waiter Ryan O’Connor said.

“And they said, ‘You’re going to sit with us, we’re a pretty cool family.’”
