Wyong preview: Baker eyes a Magic double with O’ Ole while Paradoxium and Masvingo spearhead his 2YO Classic assault
Trainer Bjorn Baker’s team is poised for a big payday as O’ Ole returns to Wyong seeking a piece of history while Paradoxium and Masvingo chase Magic Millions two-year-old glory.
Classy filly O’ Ole can bounce back from a less than ideal start to her campaign and claim a piece of history when she returns to Wyong.
The Bjorn Baker-trained filly won the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO last year before heading to the Gold Coast in January and winning the $3 million 2YO Classic.
O’ Ole returns to the Central Coast track for the Magic Millions Wyong 3YO&4YO Stakes (1200m) looking to become the first horse to claim the double.
The daughter of Ole Kirk was off her game when resuming in the Group 3 Red Roses at Flemington on November 6 where she beat just one horse home behind Point Barrow.
“It’s always been the plan to get back there for this race,” said Luke Hilton, racing manager for Bjorn Baker.

“Obviously, things didn’t work out in Melbourne when she broke through the gates then the race set-up didn’t suit her at all.
“She ended up with no cover and got a little bit keen so it was a bit of a forget run with everything that went wrong.
“We brought her back to Sydney to get over it and she has gone back to the trials and was very good. She is ready to go.”
The daughter of Ole Kirk jumped well but was restrained back to last on the fence before closing late to score narrowly from Vivian’s Express in her Canterbury trial in December 2.
Providing all goes well this week, O’ Ole will return to Queensland where she has a couple of Magic Millions options.
“There are a couple of options with the Sunlight and the Guineas,” Hilton said.
“This race will tell us whether we push on to the 1400m of the Guineas or come back to the 1100 metres for the Sunlight.”
Baker has strong two strong hands to play in Paradoxium and Masvingo as he chases his third win in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic.
Paradoxium took good improvement during his short break following his somewhat unlucky fourth behind Incognito in the Group 3 Breeders Plate back on October 4.
The Extreme Choice colt has been impressive winning both barrier trials, the latest by nearly two lengths from Steel Will at Canterbury on December 2.

“It was probably all a bit too much for him in the Breeders Plate but he learnt a lot from the experience and did so well during his break,” Hilton said.
“He’s a different horse now to what he was that day. He has improved a lot, physically more than anything. He has really strengthened up, he’s gotten bigger and has comeback in really good order.
“We couldn’t be happier with him going into this race and he has come up with a nice gate in barrier four.”
Zoustar filly Masvingo also has the advantage of race experience under her belt when she was third behind Shiki in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick the same day as Paradoxium debuted.
“She did a lot wrong in the race through lack of maturity and greenness. She didn’t have the best of luck either,” said Hilton.
“She has comeback in really good order as well and has trialled well.
“Kerrin (McEvoy) had a sit on her last Tuesday at Canterbury. She was able to get back in a slow trial and really hit the line well.
“She has improved again as well and she is in really good shape.
“Gate one is going to be a big advantage for a two-year-old and having that race experience definitely helps as well.”

Coming off a career best season with 38 winners, trainer Danielle Seib has made a flying start in the first four months of this term and is looking to bump up the tally with her first Wyong winner.
Seib already has 23 winners this season at a brilliant strike rate of 26.1 per cent along with 27 placegetters at 56.8 per cent and is quietly confident Due Calzini can bounce back to winning form and add to her record.
The gelding went down by a nose in consecutive races at Cootamundra and Canberra in October before a fifth to Agita in a Benchmark 72 at Rosehill and 12th in the Country Classic also at Rosehill.
“He last two runs haven’t been quite as good but I’ve been very pleased with how he has come through that last run,” said Seib.
“It was quite a strong edition of the Country Classic this year.
Stepping out to 2500m for the first time, D'Argento 4yo Due Calzini continued his solid recent form, pulling clear @mtcwagga to score by just shy of 3 lengths for @SeibRacing, @RacingJJJ & Pierre Boudvillain.@anz_news@TTRAusNZ@breednet@BownessBoss@mmsnippets@SkyRacingAUpic.twitter.com/CwUtkl47UZ

“He was on the back of the favourite who ran second but he couldn’t quite sprint when it did.
“When he recaptured his form during the winter, he was racing tougher when he was able to settle closer to the speed.
“He was still showing a bit of turn of foot be he really enjoyed grinding it out late.”
Due Calzini has drawn barrier 6 in the Benchmark 64 Handicap (2100m) and drops to 57.5kg thanks to the claim of talented apprentice, Coriah Keatings.
“I think being in a smaller field, he can land a little bit closer in the run and he can be more effective that way,” she said.
“If he can match what he was doing then this week, then I certainly think he is right in this race.”
Seib will weight to race morning before committing to a start with Master Of Disguise in the Magic Millions Wyong 3YO & 4YO Stakes (12000m) after she drew barrier 7.
The daughter of Xtravagant is racing in very good form with a close second to Zethus at Albury and a near two length win from How’s It Kev in a Benchmark 82 at Orange at her last two starts.
“She continues to step up to the mark and is races very genuinely,” she said.
“Obviously, it is a big step up in class but she is going very well and it is a restricted race so it was worth having a look at.”
