$2250 online buy Victory Roll lands third career win in TAB Highway at Randwick with promise of more to come

Goulburn horseman Pat Murphy heeded an owner’s advice to buy Victory Roll for just $2250, and the gelding took his earnings to more than $90,000 after his third win for his new stable.

Another gem found on the Inglis Digital online action platform provided a huge windfall at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

The Pat Murphy-trained Victory Roll was secured for the bargain price of $2250 in March this year and in the TAB Highway Plate (1800m) the gelding recorded his third win from six starts with earnings of more than $90,000 since joining the stable.

“One of his owners, Jimmy Bergin, suggested I buy him,” Murphy said.

“He told me he’d stay all day and the best was yet to come and he was spot on.

“He paid us back when he won his first start at Wagga and now he’s added a Goulburn win and a Highway victory so we’re over the moon.

“I still there’s plenty more to come too.”

Victory Roll was prominent through the first 1000m of Saturday’s set weights contest and when the speed steadied, jockey Rachel King seized the opportunity and slid forward to be outside the lead before quickening again before turning for home.

“I like riding for Patty because I know what he says is right,” King said.

“He told me he’s a fit horse that will keep running.

“He told me the key to the horse is momentum and the way the race was run it allowed me to keep building as the race evolved.”

Victory Roll ($14) skipped away at the top of the straight before being challenged by County Kilkenny ($6.50) but when eyeballed, the winner found again. Back in third was Field The Moment ($5).

“When County Kilkenny came at me, I thought I still had something to give and having the blinkers on he just needed to get a sight of the horse,” King said,

“I let him drift out towards him and when he got sight of it he found again.”

The heavily backed $3.90 favourite Imarichgirl was never a factor, beaten five and three-quarter lengths into sixth and her rider Kerrin McEvoy reported that she didn’t handle the testing ground.
