Racing Victoria stewards laid the charges against the multiple trainers’ premiership winner after receiving Victoria Police video showing Weir using the jigger on Red Cardinal, Tosen Basil and Yogi on October 30, 2018.
Weir’s co-accused, former assistant trainer Jarrod McLean and stablehand Tyson Kermond were charged with the same offences as the Melbourne Cup-winning trainer after appearing in the secretly recorded video.

McLean and Kermond pleaded guilty to their charges of using the jigger but not guilty to the remaining charges.
Weir served a four-year disqualification for possession of the jiggers, which were found in a raid on his properties at Warrnambool and Ballarat in early 2019.
Weir and McLean were also fined $36,000 each after the pair pleaded guilty to animal abuse at the Warrnambool Magistrates Court in 2022.
Kermond was ordered to donate $10,000 to the RSPCA.
All three avoided convictions for their offences.
