A gallop at The Valley will determine the next move for one Caulfield Cup scratching while another will tackle Wednesday’s Group 3 Geelong Cup.

New Zealand trainer Andrew Forsman will decide scratched Caulfield Cup entry Positivity’s next move after a gallop on Tuesday morning.

A minor issue forced Forsman to scratch Positivity from last Saturday’s $5m Caulfield Cup but the trainer said the mare appeared to have overcome the problem.

“She had a little bit of bruising in a foot after her Thursday morning gallop,” Forsman said.

“She wasn’t trotting 100 per cent right and when the rain fell on Friday, we thought we’d just take the safe option and scratch her.”

Forsman has nominated Positivity for three races across the Cox Plate carnival, including Friday night’s Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m).

He said Positivity was scheduled to head to The Valley for a gallop on Tuesday, which would form part of his decision-making process for the Naturalism Stakes winner.

“We’ve got about four options at this stage, also the Bendigo Cup is an option as well,” Forsman said.

“I’m just going to wait for a little bit to happen with jockey availability and whatnot so we haven’t made a decision on any of those races as yet.

“She’ll have a gallop at The Valley on Tuesday and if she come through it and we’re happy with her, we’ll start making a decision on what race we run her in.

“Hopefully she’s put it behind her but we won’t know filly until she is under pressure in a gallop.”

Positivity still remains in contention for the Melbourne Cup.

Another Caulfield Cup scratching, the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Muramasa, will target Wednesday’s Group 3 Geelong Cup.

Busuttin and Young scratched Muramasa because of the soft ground at Caulfield but fine weather should ensure suitable footing for the five-year-old at Geelong.

Muramasa is a $5.50 chance in Ladbrokes’ early Geelong Cup market.
