HERALD Sun racing writer Matt Stewart says it will be a case of Ollie’s revenge with Flying Artie poised to turn the tables on his more fancied stablemate in the Golden Slipper.

Champion jockey opted to ride Flying Artie in the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in a decision that backfired when his mount drew wide and then couldn’t make up the lost ground on runaway winner Extreme Choice.

Matt Stewart’s analysis

EXTREME CHOICE

Ollie’s folly (of choosing Flying Artie in the Diamond) will be rammed home if this fast and classy youngster can pull off the double. Perfect alley and recent trackwork suggests he hasn’t gone backwards. Should stalk and sprint hard.

FLYING ARTIE

The “did the barrier cost him the Diamond’’ question might be answered. Draws a gate, trainer says can use it and sit far closer this time. Ollie’s folly or Ollie’s jolly? We’ll find out.

DEFCON

Bit of a sense of timing as has improved into the campaign, often a winning Slipper formula. Barrier awkward but not terminal.

KISS AND MAKE UP

If an omen horse wins, this is it. Gai is a Slipper superpower and Singo, now back by her side, is a multiple winner and lethal ally of the great trainer. Form and ratings say the Price duo is tops but you just can’t put a line through Gai and this bloke did flog the long-time Slipper favourite last start.

ASTERN

Had he drawn a gate, the form “smarties’’ (dorks with spectacles, live at home with parents) reckon he was the spanner in Price’s works. But he’s drawn the marquees.

STAR TURN

Huge in Diamond lead-up when copped early pressure, kicked then was nailed by Flying Artie. Below par in Diamond but cast himself in stall earlier in the day. Mini blowout chance.

CAPITALIST

From favourite to flop; disappointing last start behind Kiss And Make Up. Would be a Lazarus but drawn well and was first-up last start.

GOOD STANDING

Would be great Cummings legacy story but the formlines look all wrong.

TELPERION

Flogged by Good Standing last start. Moving on.

FRENCH FERN

Upset winner of so-so lead-up last start. No.

SCARLET RAIN

Never beaten, which is a start, as is Gai factor. Barrier a bother.

CALLIOPE

Early season spruik filly back to winning form last start. Is that form good enough?

YANKEE ROSE

Trying to win first-up (has that ever happened?) and would be some feat by trainer but unbeaten, well drawn and has Purton. Shock chance.

SWEET SHERRY

OK in Diamond but has to find probably 10 lengths to win this.

HONESTY PREVAILS

Only battled last start, with poor recovery. No.

QUICK FEET

Good chasing effort last start but her quick feet won’t be quick enough.

MOQUEEN

Similar to Quick Feet last start. Here for the owners’ tickets.

MATT STEWART SELECTS

1st FLYING ARTIE

2nd KISS AND MAKE UP

3rd EXTREME CHOICE

4th YANKEE ROSE

THE SPEED

Should be fast pace with fillies SCARLET RAIN and FRENCH FERN working across from outside draws. CAPITALIST, EXTREME CHOICE and KISS AND MAKE UP will also push forward. FLYING ARTIE should settle around midfield and charge home.
