Trainer Peter Moody on weather watch for Danehill Stakes contender Eneeza

Talented filly Eneeza has one box left to tick this spring when she begins her campaign in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Millionaire Eneeza has the motor to match the colts in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1100m) on Saturday at Flemington – pending track conditions.

Forecast rain on Friday and Saturday is the only concern Peter Moody has for the three-year-old daughter of Exceed And Excel, bought for $1.1m.

Eneeza has earned $1.07m prizemoney with three wins – all in stakes company – from seven starts.

“It looks a nice race to kick her off in,” Moody said of the Group 2 winner.

“We had her in last week and she bumped her fetlock race morning, it didn’t hold her up at all”

Eneeza is a $9 chance with Ladbrokes for the Danehill behind First Settler ($3.80), Reserve Bank ($4.40), Bodyguard ($5.50) and Tarpaulin ($7).

Savagery Vibe, the only other filly in the 10-horse field, is an $11 chance.

Eneeza won the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes (1000m) on debut at Flemington last spring.

She won the Listed Merson Cooper second-up and was runner-up to Coleman in the Chairman’s Stakes after a short break.

Eneeza finished fourth in the Blue Diamond and seventh in the Golden Slipper.

She capped her two-year-old season with victory in the Group 2 Percy Sykes in April, defeating the Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot.

“She’s had experience down the straight,” Moody said.

“I wouldn’t say she’s jumped out of the ground and found half a dozen lengths, but she’s a little bit stronger and a little bit bigger.

“She’s never been a big filly, so she’s probably only got to hold her form to go there and be competitive.

“The only concern with her is if the rain arrives, because she’s not suited to the ground.”

Moody remains open-minded on plans beyond Saturday, including a potential tilt at the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.

“She’s a Group 2 winner so obviously you’d like to put a Group 1 on her resume,” Moody said.

“She’s won a Listed race, a Group 3 and a Group 2, that would be a dream if she could get there.”

Eneeza won her first two starts on Soft 5 tracks but struggled last start in May on a Soft 6 in Brisbane.

Moody, who trains in partnership with Katherine Coleman, could be torn on Saturday with Group 1 winner Chain Of Lightning desperate for cut in the ground.

TJ Smith Stakes winner Chain Of Lightning is $13 with Ladbrokes for the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington.

“Chain Of Lightning doesn’t need heavy ground, she just needs to get her toe in and probably suits all mine if we get a shower of rain,” Moody said.
