Shayno: Hello Mitchy. Spring Champion Stakes first; pardon my name dropping but Anthony Cummings tipped me into El Castello at the midweeks on debut and he ran third at $81. Point is, I have been with the horse ever since and he’s only going better.

Mitch: Not like you to take a tip on a roughie, Shayno. I think I’ve said before in this column that I’ve been with Henlein all spring. No point dropping off now. I thought his run in the Gloaming Stakes had plenty of merit too when he had to make up too much ground from the back.

Shayno: The Invitation is a great race and has just come at the perfect time for Arctic Glamour IMHO. She has been very good since her first-up second in the Missile and her run in the Epsom was a beauty; back to 1400m is more suitable.

Mitch: Olentia was arrogant in The Nivison and I am expecting her to back it up here. She’s got a super winning record of seven wins from 15 starts and will add to that in lucrative fashion here.

‘It doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense’: Champion status at stake at Randwick

Shayno: Could be the Five Diamond Prelude falls to a horse related to Phar Lap, Mitchy, namely Yellow Brick. That win in Brisbane last start was just so impressive – and he’s done more than that and in better races as well.

Mitch: Word is he went alright – Phar Lap, that is. I’ve got Yellow Brick in the numbers but putting the faith in star apprentice Zac Lloyd. He’s been set a task on Territory Express from a horror draw but this horse is flying. He wins with a bit of luck.

Shayno: Here’s hoping the great Ken (Callander) and Max (Presnell) have a great day on Saturday. I like Yes Yes Yes’ ‘nephew’ Deconstruction in their race; he’s on the up and gets to this race – peaking.

Shayne O’Cass’s race-by-race tips and analysis for Royal Randwick on Saturday

Mitch: Great blokes but can’t say I am over eager about the race named in their honour. I leant the way of Just Party. Don’t forget, he’s got form around Broadsiding and El Castello over the Randwick mile.

Shayno: Brian Crowley? Amazing Eagle/Don’t Forget Jack quinella.

Mitch: It will be hard for them to run the quinella when my best of the day salutes Shayno. Smashing Time will live up to his name. He’ll smash ‘em.
