Boom filly Autumn Glow could be given her chance in the All Aged Stakes if she can maintain her unbeaten record in the Group 2 $1m Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) without overly exerting herself at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Autumn Glow is the shortest-priced favourite on an outstanding program for Day Two of The Championships with TAB Fixed Odds price assessors rating her at $1.45 to make it five wins from as many starts.
Owner John Messara and trainer Chris Waller haven’t ruled out Autumn Glow taking on older horses in the Group 1 $1.5m All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick next Saturday but it all hinges on how the filly goes in the Arrowfield Sprint.

“It is likely she will be nominated for the All-Aged but we want to get through Saturday first and then make a decision,’’ Messara said.
“I’m not taking anything for granted. This is a tough race for her, she’s up against some very good three-year-olds.
“The last time I was in this position was before the Flight Stakes so I am not counting my chickens before they hatch.’’
Autumn Glow was hot favourite to win the Group 1 Flight Stakes last spring only to be a race-eve scratching due to injury.
In her absence, stablemate Lady Shenandoah raced away with the Flight Stakes and has trained on to win another two Group 1 races this season.
"Potentially, Autumn Glow could be the better of the two"

Autumn Glow only made her return to racing with an easy win in the Darby Munro Stakes in fast time at Rosehill three weeks ago but the brilliant filly still hasn’t had an opportunity to contest a Group 1 race.
Messara, the Arrowfield Stud supremo, said Autumn Glow was only going to have a light campaign and could even be spelled after Saturday’s race.
But Messara said if his highly-regarded filly could win, it would cap a great week that began with Know Thyself, who he part-owns, winning the Country Championships Final last Saturday before Arrrowfield Stud’s successful Inglis Easter Sale results.
Never doubt yourself!

“We have had a great week and if Autumn Glow wins it will cap it beautifully,’’ Messara said.
“She is staying at 1200m but everyone working with the filly tell me she still has plenty of sprint in her legs.
“A lot of what we have seen from her indicates she will get up to a mile but for now, we are happy to keep her to sprinting.
“She’s such an exciting filly and I’m looking forward to Saturday but this is racing, what will be, will be.’’

SECTIONAL STARS
AUTUMN GLOW (race 5) resumed in the Darby Munro Stakes three weeks ago and powered over the Rosehill 1200m in a fast 1m 09.24s. She got stronger the further the race went and sprinted her final 600m in 33.40s with a closing 200m of 11.14s, two of the fastest splits on the day.

FANGIRL (race 9) endured a wide run with no cover in the George Ryder Stakes but she ran a blinder to lose narrowly to Gringotts. Fangirl still ran her final 600m in 32.98s – the second fastest sectional of the day behind top sprinter Briasa’s 32.59s in The Galaxy. Despite her tough run, Fangirl’s closing 200m split of 11.09s was the best of the day.

TRIAL POINTERS
SEQUISTA (race 4) ran a very good third on debut in the Inglis Nursery behind Within The Law back in December but hasn’t raced since. She has been prepared for her return with two impressive barrier trials, the most recent when she looked very good beating Within The Law and Memo by nearly three lengths. Promising filly and she will make her presence felt in the Percy Sykes Stakes.

OLENTIA (race 10) has been freshened since her fourth in the Coolmore Classic behind Lady Shenandoah a month ago. She looked sharp in a recent Rosehill when second, albeit some four lengths behind the speedy Passeggiata. Olentia has a very good 1200m record and will be hard to beat in the Sapphire Stakes.

BEST BET
FANGIRL (race 9) is an outstanding mare racing in great form. She won the Apollo Stakes first-up then ran a close second to Via Sistina in the Verry Elleegant Stakes before her luckless loss in the George Ryder Stakes, going under narrowly to Gringotts after enduring a wide run. She returns to the Randwick mile course where she has won three times previously including the King Charles III Stakes. Perfectly placed against her own sex at set weights.

VALUE
POLISH PLAYGIRL (race 1) was unplaced in the Magic Night Stakes on debut then ran an eye-catching race when charging through late for third, beaten less than a length by Prestige Ole at Flemington over 1400m last start. Promising filly who should have no problems with the step up to 1600m should suit her. Value around the $5-$6 mark.
