SCONE TIPS

BEST BET

Race 7 No. 8: Rasay Factor

Won four from 11, including one here at Scone. Booming first-up winner to boot.

NEXT BEST

Race 8 No. 1: Hell’s Itch

Was simply too good for them at Newcastle first-up. Looks midweek standard at least.

VALUE BET

Race 2 No. 6: Bold As Love

Won his trial by nearly eight lengths at Muswellbrook and debuts at home.

QUADDIE

Race 5: 1, 2, 11

Race 6: 4, 11

Race 7: 8

Race 8: 1

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Aaron Bullock will be as popular as always in the TAB Jockeys Challenge.

RACE 5

Balmierro has four placings and five fourths from 13 starts so it is fair to say he is almost always around the mark and in much better races than a Scone Maiden Plate. Take his last start for example, when fourth, albeit a distant one, in town. Fort Denison turned in his best run (by far) when a closing fifth here over 1300m on a big track. Wants a mile now big time. San Gavino is a local who surely has to figure on the July 2 track and distance run.

Bet: Balmierro to win, quinella 1, 2

RACE 6

Joiselle is a blue-blooded filly by Snitzel who is unbeaten in her two starts, both at Dubbo in February and March respectively. The Brett Cavanough-trained bay won her June 12 trial here and looks ready to go. This will be a good test for her though, provided all her rivals show up. Consenza for instance; this granddaughter of Mannerism is third-up in a Class 3 at home off back to back placings in very strong Benchmark 82’s. Hellova Nature is provincial grade.

Bet: Joiselle to win, quinella 4, 11

RACE 7

Rasay Factor has some compelling numbers beginning with his overall record of four wins from 11 starts. On top of that, the Cody Morgan-trained gelding is one for one at Scone and one for one on Heavy. He was incredibly impressive winning first-up at Tamworth. This is just the sort of race where Shen Gui is at his most dangerous. He just had an off day there at Muswellbrook last start. It happens. Jonny Be Swift has a tidy little record and is a first-up winner.

Bet: Rasay Factor to win, Shen Gui to place

RACE 8

Hell’s Itch was $3.60 into $2.80 first-up at Newcastle in a race where he just looked too good for them on paper and so it was. The John Thompson-trained gelding came away with an easy win and a real boost to the confidence no doubt. Candy Women is sure to provide some stiff competition. She was an easy winner at Kembla prior to a very close second at Newcastle after that. Can imagine Tamar being the one to finish late and fast first-up at odds maybe too depending on deductions.

Bet: Hell’s Itch to win, Tamar to place

MORUYA

BEST BET

Race 1 No. 6: Win The Day

Debuts off two excellent trials. Well-bred and in a top stable.

NEXT BEST

Race 3 No. 2: Lord Remy

Has some very compelling numbers across the board, not least at the track and trip.

VALUE BET

Race 4 No. 10: Crown Estate

Judge him on the middle of his three runs at the first -preparation.

RACE 5

Final Comment could well be saved for Randwick on Saturday for another crack at a Highway. To be brief, the Nick Olive-trained grey was unlucky in his last one behind the stablemate Toes In The Water. It has taken a while but it looks like Sebastian’s Flyer is at his peak again. The Joseph/Jones-trained son of Spieth came from seventh of 14 at the 400m to be beaten a neck here at his last start over 1425m. Up to 1660m now. Old marvel My Blue Jeans won for the tenth time at his 114th start here on June 29.

Bet: Final Comment to win or of scratched Sebastian’s Flyer each-way

RACE 6

Take You There has a pedigree to suggest that she could end up going 2000m or more. The fact that she kicks off over 1435m gives her a chance to win if she happens to get back from that wide draw and have the last crack at them. Could be totally wrong about this but Plucky Ducky could make an impression here at huge odds. There’s more to her than her form indicates but she’s getting overdue to step up. Ditto most of that for the blue-blooded Pharaline.

Bet: Take You There each-way, Daily Double 1st Leg (14), 2nd Leg (8)

RACE 7

Jewel Approach is a Danny Williams-trained mare who has raced seven times for a win and two thirds. One of those thirds was here at Moruya. Cut a fine figure when an unhurried fourth in her June 21 trial at home at Goulburn. Acheson did a great job at his first preparation. For the record, he went ‘2251’ and keep in mind that the fifth was at Warwick Farm in a Super Maiden behind Ducasse no less. Dupli Kate is handy and has the race-fitness edge on the other pair.

Bet: Jewel Approach to win, exacta 2 to beat 12

RACE 8

Lichester is a valuable mare. Long story short as to the why, her third dam is Flying Floozie who was a three-times NZ Broodmare of the Year. As for Lichester herself, the Kerry Parker-trained and Proven Thoroughbreds-raced mare has two wins and three placings from her 13 starts. She loves the Heavy and was unlucky at Kembla first-up. Bonus Tempus has won only twice in his 34 starts but he has placed 11 times and he’s really flying at the moment too. Reet Petite has raced eight times for three wins and four seconds.

Bet: Lichester to win, quinella 8, 10
