Everest slot-holders will start going wild about Private Harry if the unbeaten sprinter wins Saturday’s Group 1 The Galaxy.

Early interest from The Everest slot-holders will likely reach fever pitch if unbeaten boom colt Private Harry lives up to his top billing in Saturday’s Group 1 $1m The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

The Nathan Doyle-trained Private Harry has emerged from obscurity to stamp himself as one of Australia’s most exciting young sprinters in an amazing first preparation over the summer months.

A sensational run of four consecutive victories to start his career was punctuated by an emphatic win in the inaugural $3m Magic Millions Sunlight at the Sunshine Coast in January.

Despite never featuring in a stakes race, let alone a Group 1, Private Harry currently sits on the second line of betting at $11 for this year’s The Everest.

But for now Doyle is keeping a steely focus on the autumn and a maiden Group 1 test this weekend where Private Harry is the $3.20 favourite.

“There is talk around (The Everest) but you still have to go out and do something on Saturday and work it out from there onwards,” Doyle said.

“We don’t want to put the cart before the horse.

“We will train him as he is, he is lightly-raced and still on an upward spiral so we will get through Saturday.

“He is a first-up and will have a bit of improvement to come being a colt, but we are happy where he sits fitness wise.

“A few of them are first-up and aren’t deep in their preparation so there’s a lot of fresh, fast horses in it.”

Private Harry had a short freshen up after his Sunlight win but has trialled successfully twice in the lead-up to his autumn return.

There is no doubt he goes up another level in The Galaxy against a field of proven and emerging sprinters that includes Commemorative ($6.50), Briasa ($7) and Growing Empire ($8).

Doyle expects Private Harry will be up for the challenge.

“He has got to take that natural step,” Doyle said.

“There are good formlines around him out of the Sunlight and even at Hawkesbury the horse that he beat there Dark Glitter ended up running second in a Group 2 (Millie Fox),”

“There was a bit of early stages questioning what was he beating but that has held up.”

It could be the most significant moment on a racetrack for both Doyle and jockey Ashley Morgan as both hunt their maiden Group 1 wins.

Morgan’s task was made that little bit easier after Private Harry drew favourable in barrier six.

“It seems like the perfect draw,” Doyle said.

“I would have been quite happy with five or six so to draw six is pleasing.

“It looks fast race but he’s a fast horse so he will bang himself out pretty quick and put himself on speed.

“He doesn’t need to lead or be outside lead but he will just jump into the bridle and be there.”

Doyle had Wooloowin and Overriding in Thursday’s Newcastle Provincial-Midway Championships Qualifier but has saved the former for Saturday’s Group 3 $250,000 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m).

Wooloowin ($6) is returning from a break in her first crack at stakes grade.

“It’s a tough ask 1400m from a bad gate at home so being a mare, she has probably found the right Group 3 to kick back off in,” Doyle said.
