‘We could see her go a lot better’: Trainer Matt Laurie’s ominous warning ahead of Treasurethe Moment’s 2025 ATC Australian Oaks tilt
She’s the filly who’s forgotten how to lose … and if Treasurethe Moment’s rivals are hoping for a down day in the Australian Oaks, they’ll be disappointed to hear her trainer’s race-eve comments.

It should sound as an ominous warning that trainer Matt Laurie believes boom filly Treasurethe Moment can be even better in ideal conditions for Saturday’s Group 1 $1m Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick.
Treasurethe Moment has forgotten how to lose and comes into the fillies major on the back of a seven race winning streak that’s included two Group 1s and five stakes victories in total.
She was an commanding winner of the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes last start but didn’t relish the soft conditions at the rescheduled Rosehill Gardens meeting, a fate she’s set to avoid this weekend.

“I think she has been so good on top of the ground, it’s obviously her and our preferred surface,” Laurie said.
“I think we could see her go a lot better with the right conditions which I think we will get.
“She had a nice gallop on Wednesday and a bit of work on Sunday, a bit of evens, and then the gallop on Wednesday which we were happy with.
“It’s all systems go.”

The VRC-ATC Oaks double has been done for close to two decades when Serenade Rose last achieved the feat in 2005-06.
Treasurethe Moment is a $1.70 favourite to break that drought and will again be ridden by Damian Lane, who partnered the daughter of Alabama Express in her final two spring victories and three wins this time in.
“To have her not only win the Wakeful and Oaks but a handful of races leading up to it and to continue on that upward trajectory and achieve that result and then have a holiday, come back in the way she has, you don’t see that very often,” Laurie said.
“She is a high class filly and we are so happy to have her in the stable.
“She is a gem and if she could pull off the Oaks double, it would be incredible.”

Chris Waller will saddle up two of the main rivals to Treasurethe Moment with NZ Oaks winner Leica Lucy ($4) and Adrian Knox Stakes victor Belle Detelle ($9) both lining up.
Waller made the decision not to back up dominant Group 1 Australian Derby winner Aeliana.
“Aeliana did some really good things leading up to that Derby and the writing was on the wall,” Laurie said.
“It would have been a good race to watch but Chris made a smart move getting her to that Derby while we’ve always been pretty clear where we’ve been heading.
“Her program was directed at getting to the Oaks where Chris left her program open so he could do either.
“I am not taking this Oaks for granted.
“There is obviously a really smart filly from New Zealand (Leica Lucy) and I think Chris’s other filly (Belle Detelle) looks progressive too.
“It won’t be a walk in the park and hope we have the best filly.”
We don't just like her, we love her! Leica Lucy wins the Oaks!

Laurie made the decision to send his other Sydney autumn Group 1 winner Vinrock for a spell earlier this week rather than head towards the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) on Saturday week.
Vinrock was the first son of I Am Invincible to win a Group 1 at two in Australia when he won the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes last weekend and is now one of the most valuable breeding prospects in the country.
• Kiwi filly out to repay faith – and late entry fee – in Oaks
“The Champagne was there if we weren’t able to get the job done in the Sires’,” Laurie said.
“He obviously did. Pulling up now, he is always going to be an unbeaten two-year-old by I Am Invincible.
“Whatever happens now, I am sure he will win something at three but he will never lose that tag so I am comfortable with the decision.
“I think he could have gone there and gone close to winning the race but how much commercial upside you get from that, I just didn’t think the upside of that outweighed the downside should he get rolled.”
