Tony Gollan is preparing to launch an all-out attack on the two-day Rockhampton carnival, declaring his intentions to land the lucrative trainers bonus again.

The 10-time championship winning trainer is looking to have runners in most races later this week and says he is a huge fan of country racing in the region.

With the $150,000 Rockhampton Cup and $100,000 Rockhampton Newmarket on, Gollan is set to have multiple runners as he looks to cap off what is set to be a record-breaking season.

While it hasn’t netted a Group 1, Gollan is on the cusp of producing his most prolific season as a trainer.

The trainer with the most wins over the two-day Rockhampton carnival receives a $20,000 bonus from the Rockhampton Jockey Club, which Gollan says he is eager to win again after taking it out in the past.

“We are sending a big team north,” Gollan declared.

“It’s no secret there is a trainers bonus incentive for the most winners over the two days, so we will have runners in a lot of the races, probably not multiple runners, but most of the races.

“Being a country Queenslander myself, I love supporting this carnival and country racing as a whole.”

It is set to be a case of the old and the new for Gollan in the Rockhampton Newmarket on Friday, with Ef Troop and Rockribbed headed to the 1300m scamper.

“I haven’t won a Newmarket up there before, so it’s one I want to get,” he said.

“In the Newmarket we will have Rockribbed and Ef Troop, one of the old boys of the stable along with the new kid on the block.

Rockribbed was really impressive at Ipswich I thought, he can get out over 1400m, 1500m as well, so 1300m at Rocky will be good.

“Ef Troop raced keen the other day, so we are keen to ride him quieter, his runs have been good when ridden like that, so I gave him a trial on Thursday, where he finished off well.

“We want to wind back the clock with him, he will be one of the class horses in the race.”

Gollan is also set to have at least one runner in the Rockhampton Cup, with Rising Pacific headed to the feature on the Saturday.

The carnival will be without a headline jockey, with both Nash Rawiller and John Allen unable to make the trip north.
