Jockeys Beany Panya and Blake Spriggs have been taken to Moruya hospital and are awaiting a helicopter to Canberra following a nasty fall at Moruya on Friday afternoon.

Panya’s twin sister, Deanne, said the hoop is in a “stable but serious condition” following the incident while Spriggs has been in and out of consciousness in hospital.

“The nurse at Moruya hospital has updated me on Beany Panya’s condition,” Panya wrote on Facebook.

“She is currently in stable but serious condition following the nasty race fall today.

“There are suspected fractures to her back, and the full extent of her injuries is still being assessed.

“Her consciousness is not great at the moment, but she is being closely monitored.

“A helicopter is on its way to transport her to Canberra hospital for further treatment and assessment.”

Spriggs, who was having his first day back in the saddle following suspension, has been intubated and is set to require surgery.

“Blake has been intubated and has been in and out of consciousness,” a Racing NSW report read.

“He has chest and abdominal injuries which will require surgery and fractures of his ribs and clavicle.

“He is awaiting an assessment from a neurosurgeon.”

The fall occurred at approximately the 400m mark when the field swung for home and Panya and Spriggs hit the turf.

Spriggs’ mount Blesstas appeared to clip the heels of the leader and took a tumble.

As a result Panya’s mount The Boomerang, which was racing on the outside of Blesstas, became unbalanced and also fell.

The remaining two races on Moruya’s eight-race card were abandoned.
