Victoria’s star filly Treasurethe Moment called on all of her reserves to make it eight straight wins in the $1 million Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The Matt Laurie-trained filly made it three Group 1 wins for her three-year-old season, equalling the achievement of star Sydney filly Lady Shenandoah.
Treasurethe Moment’s desire to win was tested like never before, largely due to the to the perfectly rated ride by Alysha Collett aboard the runner-up Sun ‘N’ Sand.
In third was You Wahng, ahead of Kiwi Group 1 winner Leica Lucy.

The victory was Laurie’s third Group 1 success in two weeks, following on from Treasurethe Moment’s win in the Vinery Stud Stakes and Vinrock’s success last week in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes.
Treasurethe Moment is a three-year-old filly by Alabama Express was ridden by Damian Lane and the victory took her earnings to more than $2.4 million.
This is what the riders thought of their mount’s performance in the Australian Oaks.
1st - TREASURETHE MOMENT (Damian Lane) She’s a beauty, she’s a pleasure to ride, she got me out of a bit of a sticky spot at the top of the straight. The leader really sprinted well and I probably gave her a bit too much leeway and had a bit of ground to make up. She ended up knuckling down when it counted, just those real good special horses, just find a way.
2nd - SUN ‘N’ SAND (Alysha Collett) She has gone outstanding. Thought we could do that especially when we were able to control things in front. The other horses too good.
3rd - YOU WAHNG (Craig Williams) She is now Group 1 placed. Kris Lees and stable have done a great job on a seven day turnaround in this distance, this grade. She went so good.
4th - LEICA LUCY (James McDonald) She has gone really well in a slowly run race.
5th - BELLE DETELLE (Tommy Berry) Got into a nice rhythm early. Once everyone found their spot and the speed came out of it. She just got keen which was always going to be the worry for her today. Incredible job to finish where she did considering from the mile she went quite keen.
6th - VERONA ROSE (Kerrin McEvoy) Thought she ran well. Slow tempo didn’t suit her. She ran the trip out strongly. So connections may go to Brisbane.
7th - ELLA HAZEL (Joshua Parr) We weren’t quite good enough today. She is a nice filly on the rise.
8th - DUBAI GOLDRUSH (Mark Zahra) Wasn’t up to it today.
9th - MATRIMONIAL (Chad Schofield) She had to get re-shod behind the gates after springing her shoe. Never really felt happy.
