Jockey Tommy Berry puts his trust in Olentia’s outstanding Rosehill record for 2024 Hot Danish

Olentia saves her best for her home track, Freedom Rally has been overlooked by the market, and Extractor has great natural speed.
This was how champion jockey Tommy Berry summed up his three big race rides on the final day of the Sydney Spring Carnival at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Berry has a busy afternoon with rides in 10 races including the Chris Waller-trained Olentia in the Group 2 $500,000 Hot Danish Stakes (1400m).
The Zoustar mare disappointed last start when only fourth in The Invitation behind Belclare and Magic Time, her two main rivals again in the Hot Danish, but Berry made a compelling case for Olentia to be given another chance.

“It is pretty clear now her second-up record is not great,’’ Berry said.
“But at her third run in, her record is very good plus her Rosehill form is so much more superior to Randwick.
“I gave her a piece of work Monday morning and she went really well. She is bouncing out of her skin.
“She is going to turn up there on Saturday in the best possible condition and putting my trust in her third-up runs and her Rosehill form.’’
In latest TAB Fixed Odds betting, Olentia is at $4.80 behind only $2.30 favourite Magic Time and Belclare at $3.40.
But Freedom Rally, Berry’s mount in the Listed $2 million Five Diamonds (1800m), is out to $19 despite an eye-catching effort last start when ran on late for third in the Prelude over 1500m.
âNot sure how he's that price'

“I’m very surprised the market has overlooked Freedom Rally,’’ Berry said.
“The horses that only just beat him last start, Iknowastar ($7) and Territory Express ($4 favourite), are much shorter in the market.
“Freedom Rally was the horse that had the ‘flashing light’ on him and will enjoy getting to 1800m.
“I was really happy with the way he stretched out to the line at Randwick.’’
Berry, who won the $3 million Big Dance on Gringotts on Cup Day, is also optimistic the Michael Freedman-trained Extractor can defy the odds in the Group 3 $1 million Golden Gift (1100m).
Extractor is one of the outsiders at $17 for the two-year-old race but Berry was impressed by the colt’s barrier trial effort when a close second at Kensington last week.

“I rode O’ Ole at the trials the same day and Extractor ran quicker time,’’ Berry said.
“He is a lovely colt, he has great natural speed and a good head on his shoulders.’’
Berry also has rides two form sprinters to close out the meeting – Fire Star is chasing a hat-trick in the Petaluma Handicap (1200m) and Need Some Luck is also striving to maintain winning momentum in the Kia Ora Prague Handicap (1400m).
“Fire Star has turned his form around,’’ Berry said. “When I rode him early in his preparation he was doing a lot wrong.
“But at his last two runs he has put it all together and he’s a nice prospect.
“I won on Need Some Luck last start. It never looks ‘pretty’ the way I ride him but the important thing is to get him into a rhythm.’’
Berry starts a 10-day suspension for his Gringotts-winning ride after the Rosehill meeting.
