Golden Slipper Day Group 1 fields and barrier draws

Star sprinter Private Harry was the second last horse to make it into the field of 14 for his Group 1 debut in Saturday’s $1 million The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill.

Star sprinter Private Harry was the second last horse to make it into the field of 14 for his Group 1 debut in Saturday’s $1 million The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill.

The exciting unbeaten speedster, which is on the second line of The Everest all-in betting at $11, drew barrier 6, will jump from 5 if the emergency does gain a start, for his first assignment at the elite level where he’ll chase his five consecutive win.

The other excitement machine in The Galaxy, Briasa didn’t fare as well and will have to overcome the outside barrier if he’s to improve his record to seven wins from eight starts.

The first of Saturday’s five Group 1 races is the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) where Australia’s highest rated horse Via Sistina will take on six opponents in her quest for a seventh local Group 1 win.

The first of this carnival’s international raiders, this William Haggas-trained Al Mubhir will clash with Via Sistina while Chris Waller also takes the covers off a US Group 1 winner Full Count Felicia.

Of the locals, Lindermann leads the charge.

Next to go will be the three-year-olds where Broadsiding will be out for redemption in the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) after being beaten by Linebacker in the Randwick Guineas.

There’s no Linebacker this week but Broadsiding will have to overcome 10 rivals as he chases a fourth Group 1 success.

The Golden Slipper field and barrier draw was declared and announced on Tuesday so rounding out Saturday’s Group 1 events is the George Ryder Stakes (1500m), which year-on-year is one of Australia’s highest rating races.

The weight-for-age contest has attracted 11 top class gallopers, 10 Group 1 winners.

Ceolwulf will be attempting to get back into the winner’s circle and will take on the likes of All-Star mile winner Tom Kitten, Canterbury Stakes winner Royal Patronage, Underwood Stakes winner Buckaroo and Apollo Stakes winner Fangirl.
