Godolphin’s gifted colt Broadsiding won his fourth Group 1 and surely Aeliana has a major race win in her very soon.
The finish of the $750,000 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on Saturday underlined Broadsiding’s sheer class but it also highlighted emerging filly Aeliana’s big-race potential as she finished fast to just miss reeling in the star colt.

James Cummings, the Godolphin maestro, conceded it wasn’t easy for Broadsiding and jockey James McDonald after the colt was trapped three-wide early.
“Broadsiding didn’t have it all his own way today, it took plenty of guts to win, no doubt about that,’’ Cummings said.
“He’s a class colt and class carries you a long way. I suppose from the draw, he’s had to do a fair bit of work, and James just rode him with confidence and stuck to his plan, which was essentially to keep an open mind and not give away too much ground today on a track like this.
“But that filly, who’s been so good, and James knows well, Aeliena, has done work early and they can launch at you so it takes a very good horse to hold them off.
“You know, he’s probably not a genuine 2000m horse, but he’s a brilliant horse, and he’s got up and won the Rosehill Guineas, so fair play to him.
“He’s probably done it the hard way, and his performance is worth reflecting on.”

• Autumn Glow’s class shines in comeback
Broadsiding ($2.90 favourite) held off the late surge of Aeliana ($5.50) to win by a short-half head with Swiftfalcon ($3.90) less than a length away third.
McDonald admitted he was concerned early when Broadsiding was trapped three-wide without cover.
“It was one of those moments where you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t, so we rolled the dice, we had a crack and it paid off,’’ McDonald said.
“At the first bend, I thought, oh no, then I ended up with a 1-1, and it was a good win, a really good win.’’
Cummings admitted he is unsure of Broadsiding’s autumn campaign going forward as the trainer believes the colt is not well weighted for the $4m Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 5, and still has reservations about the three-year-old at 2000m for the $5m Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
“Before I go and rule him out of other 2000m races in the future, I think it’s worthwhile saying, it’s a great credit to him, he’s got another Group 1 on the board,’’ Cummings said.
There was even some suggestion Broadsiding could be in line for a possible Royal Ascot campaign and a race like the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes over 1600m.
“Nothing is off the table,’’ Cummings said. “I’m not saying he will go overseas but it is something to think about.’’
Aeliana has run a blinder for second and trainer Chris Waller can continue his plans to aim the filly at the Group 1 $1m ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 12 which sets up a stellar clash with Melbourne’s outstanding filly Treasurethe Moment.
