Trainer Brett Cavanough was forced to put promising filly Alabama Magic’s Golden Slipper quest on hold with stablemate Brat Summer left to hunt a boilover win in Saturday’s Listed Lonhro Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick.

Cavanough was set to saddle up a two-pronged attack in the $200,000 event but a minor setback will keep Alabama Magic in her box at home in Scone.

“The blood and everything is in order but she (Alabama Magic) has just got a little cough,” Cavanough said.

“Going into it at that level you want to be spot on.

“She is nominated for the Slipper, is she good enough? I don’t know but we will try and have her bang on next time around in one of those fillies races leading in.”

Brat Summer, a $120,000 Magic Millions buy, is lining up for his first start in the first of two juvenile features this weekend.

The son of Golden Slipper winner Capitalist won his only trial in the lead up to his debut where he is a $101 outsider.

“He was bit tardy away in his trial but the stars are aligned for him because he’s drawn 15 with Jason Collett rides so that’s a recipe for him to get in behind them and get home,” Cavanough said.

“I like him, he is a nice colt.”

Cavanough starts his day with a pair of promising gallopers in the TAB Highway Handicap (1200m) and both can win.

Chidiac ($10) brings an unblemished record of three wins from three starts into the race while talented filly Fingers Hunter ($12) is second up after a fresh fifth in Highway company.

“Chidiac is educated, ready to go and has a nice gate so we will get a bit of a look at her albeit fourth up and she has been in work a long time,” Cavanough said.

“She is pretty full proof, lands on the speed and gives a kick.

“I think Fingers Hunter is very good actually. She is a good filly.

“I put the blinkers on her on Saturday and she probably needs to get to 1400m to a mile but Kerrin (McEvoy) got off the other day and suggested we go further and I said what about one more so that’s what we’ve done.

“She has drawn a reasonable gate and trained on.”
