Hot young sire The Autumn Sun has a quintet of fillies chasing success in the Australasian Oaks

While The Autumn Sun is convalescing after a recent paddock accident, he could be in for a big weekend with five fillies in contention for the Group 1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville.

Arrowfield Stud’s boom young stallion The Autumn Sun will be represented by a remarkable five runners in the Group 1 $1 million Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The Autumn Sun is the sire of a quarter of the field with Vibrant Sun, Coco Sun, Private Legacy and The Autumn Belle plus first emergency Harvest Moon.

This is some achievement by The Autumn Sun as the stallion’s oldest crop are three-year-olds.

Vibrant Sun and Coco Sun are the $5.50 equal favourites on TAB Fixed Odds to provide The Autumn Sun with his second Group 1 winner after The Autumn Angel won the ATC Australian Oaks at Royal Randwick earlier this month.

The Autumn Sun was an outstanding racehorse, scoring on debut at the 2018 Randwick Anzac Day meeting and training on to win eight of his nine starts including Group 1 wins in the JJ Atkins, Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas, Randwick Guineas and Rosehill Guineas.

He has made a flying start to his stud career siring four individual stakeswinners including Vibrant Sun, Coco Sun and Autumn Ballet plus Group 1 placegetters Tutta La Vita and Tulsi.

The stallion, a son of the great Redoute’s Choice, has become hot property at stud with Arrowfield Stud close to finalising his book of mares for the spring breeding season.

But The Autumn Sun’s strong presence in the Australasian Oaks on Saturday comes after Arrowfield Stud announced this week their young stallion is nursing a pelvic injury sustained in his paddock.

“We are confident The Autumn Sun will respond favourably to box rest for a period of time,’’ Arrowfield Stud supremo John Messara said.

“At this stage, we are optimistic he will recover in time for the breeding season.’’

The Autumn Sun is currently fourth on the Second Season Sires premierships with 33 individual winners of 48 races of $3.7 million prizemoney behind Trapeze Artist ($5.5 million), Justify ($5.1 million) and Harry Angel ($4.2 million).
