GOSFORD INSIDE MAIL
RACE 1: SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1600m)
THE BIG BLUE (8) was off the scene for 15 months after his debut at Newcastle last year. Returned with a handy third to Vetwelve at Wyong over 1350m on June 24. Bred to get further and should appreciate the 1600m. STEEL RAIN (7) wasted wide throughout when down the track on a Good 4 at Kembla last start. Placed on soft ground his previous three starts including a third here. WALK LIKE A MAN (9) ran a better race second-up at Kembla and will also benefit from the rise in trip.
BET: THE BIG BLUE to win.
RACE 2: CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m)
UP AND UNDER (4) is knocking on the door. Wasn’t far away in two of those runs at Warwick Farm. Led and caught late behind Ant at Kembla last start. Will take catching here. ANDERSON BRIDGE (1) disappointed when second last behind Half Yours at Rosehill two starts back. Didn’t get clear until inside the 200m when third to Natural Deduction at Canterbury last start. Runner-up his only run here. TWILIGHT ELEGANCE (8) wasn’t fully tested when third to Malbrook Castle at Hawkesbury at her first go over 2100m.
BET: UP AND UNDER to win.
RACE 3: CG&E MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)
CAESAR (6) is a half-brother to Shaquero on debut. Pushed up to lead and win in his May 30 Randwick heat. Rolled to the front and went to the line with his ears pricked in his June 20 Randwick trial. CALIFORNIA COMMAND (2) debuted with a third at Kembla and was just behind the placegetters at his next two. Has had three trials to prepare for his return. Hit the line nicely when second the impressive Entitlement in his June 27 Randwick trial. SIR TUA (8) has place claims.
BET: CAESAR to win.
RACE 4: PROVINCIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000m)
DORALEE (3) raced wide without cover when third to Queen’s Rhapsody at Hawkesbury two starts back. Raced on the fence in inferior ground when a length-and-a-half sixth to Just Like Tilda at Kembla on June 3. Has since finished a long head second to In Flight in her Kembla trial. STEP QUICK (5) has placed runner-up in four of his 10 starts, three of them in his last five runs. Was a neck off First Landing at Newcastle two starts back. ALL SAINTS (1) has claims on her debut second to Gheilmi.
BET: DORALEE to win.
RACE 5: F&M MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)
NAZWAH (10) is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Charm Stone on debut. Sat four-wide to beat Crocodile in her April 24 Randwick heat. Led all the way to win her June 27 trial from Ninja. PROFILE (12) is a debutant by Frosted from the family of Freemason. Sat fourth and closed smartly when asked to extend to win her Canterbury trial June 23. WHO I THINK I AM (14) is a first starter by So You Think. Closed nicely from last when second to Codename in her Kembla trial.
BET: NAZWAH to win.
RACE 6: F&M MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)
HARLEX (1) raced away for an impressive win at Newcastle first-up. Sat outside Pratt when a neck second at Wyong. Again outside the leader when a nose second to Sunday Tycoon here last start. TESSY TEE (4) boxed on for second to Quartz Legend at Kembla first-up before a third to Zielle at Goulburn. Battled away to beat all bar Just In Time at Hawkesbury last start. DUKE OF CAMDEN (3) was good in his first campaign when third on debut before a win at Goulburn. Trials have been good.
BET: HARLEX to win.
RACE 7: F&M BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1100m)
BURJ (4) kicked off her first campaign with a win at Newcastle and just beaten at Kembla third-up. Had to chase the free-rolling Diddle Dumpling first-up when fourth here on June 12. Will be better for the run. EFHARISTO (3) was runner-up to Erno’s Cube on debut in the Max Lees at Newcastle. Was off the scene for 19 months when resuming with a stylish win from Zing To Me at Hawkesbury on June 26. O’INVINCIBLE (2) disappointed first-up on the Kensington but has since trialled well at Canterbury.
BET: BURJ each-way.
RACE 8: CG&E BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1100m)
STRAAND BEAUTY (2) just battled away when fifth to The Great Houdini at Canterbury on June 9 and was freshened. Smart trial win from Fleetwood at Canterbury on June 23. Nice placings at his first two runs back from a spell. Blinkers go on. KIRIBATI (1) raced keenly when fifth to Cassiel at Hawkesbury last start. Crossover nose band goes on to help him settle. Is a third-up winner. FLY SCOTTY FLY (5) led when second to Cassiel in that Hawkesbury race first-up. Wide gate is the concern.
BET: STRAAND BEAUTY to win.
