INSIDE MAIL – GOSFORD

RACE 1

Gorbachev was narrowly beaten in his first two starts by Idolised and Shelstein respectively before racing keenly out wide early when fifth to Superhero. Resumes off a solid closing second in his Randwick trial on Feb 24. Alpine Ski also placed in two of his three starts behind Fortingall and Theblade with a close fourth behind Iron Hawk splitting those runs. Returns as a gelding and has been kept under a hold in his two trials. Rare Moon has placed at her last two runs and won’t be far away again.

Bet: Gorbachev to win

RACE 2

Custom reared at the start and was held up in the straight yet beaten only two lengths on debut behind Karinska at Canterbury. Returned three weeks later when a half-length second to State Visit. First starter Outcast Ally led and kicked away for a stylish win in her Rosehill trial on Mar 6. Barbarossa was eighth in that same race when held up and steadied in the straight in finishing eighth. Runner-up to Steel Knight at Canberra when resuming two weeks earlier.

RACE 3

Mercantilist sat wide and cruised up under a hold to win her Feb 24 Hawkesbury trial narrowly. Third placed Piperita won first-up on Wednesday. Pulled away to win her Mar 5 Beaumont trial in the fast time of the day. Extremely Frilly deserves to win a race sooner rather than later. Placed six from nine with a couple of close margins. Raced wide without cover when fifth at Wyong first-up. Murphilly boxed on for fourth to Sneaky Choice here first-up.

Bet: Mercantilist to win

RACE 4

Bremel was a little unlucky when beaten on debut behind La Roja at Warwick Farm. Quickly made amends with two dominant wins at Hawkesbury and Kembla. Up a couple of grades here but will still take beating. Party Doll resumed with a nose second behind Gogmagog at Wyong. She’s a second-up winner and gets in well with 53.5kg after the claim. Power Of The Brave had been good in his first three runs this prep with two placings and an unlucky seventh. Rewarded with a nice win at Newcastle last start.

RACE 5

Maison Louis drifted back to last but made up good ground late out wide when fifth to Island Dream over 1400m at Hawkesbury on debut. Sat fourth and cruised away for a three length won over 1500m at Goulburn last start. Hard to beat again from the pole. Hardpoint was just caught by a flying Full Metal Jacket at Kembla first-up. Will be prominent again. Exclusive Artist was third in that same race following her maiden win.

Bet: Maison Louis to win

RACE 6

Miss Spacegirl debuted with a good win at Canberra followed a handy second at Hawkesbury. Jumped up in grade when ninth in the Group 3 Spring Stakes. Resumes here and can start off win a win. Hawkwind bled when ninth to Misty Legend at her only run last July. Had solid form before that with seconds to In Flight and Lady Extreme before a Super Maiden win here. Mamushka followed her good trial form with a nice debut win at Goulburn.

RACE 7

Lady Zodiac was given a shot at the Group 2 Percy Sykes after her debut fourth to More Territories. Ended her prep with a win on protest at Hawkesbury. In a new stable and trials have been good. Useaspin scored back-to-back wins at Wyong and Hawkesbury before contesting the Group 3 Red Roses at Flemington in the spring. Given an easy trial when a safely held fourth to Briasa in her Rosehill trial. Motoscafo won her only provincial start. Can run well first-up.

Bet: Lady Zodiac to win

RACE 8

Rolling Magic got well back but was doing his best work late when fourth over 1250m at Newcastle first-up on Feb 15 behind Welcometobarbados who went on to win a Provincial-Midway Qualifier at her next start. Is a second-up winner and will make his presence felt. Mogul Monarch followed a big win at Wyong first-up with a game neck second to Catch The Glory ion a Midway at Randwick on Mar 1. The hardest to beat. Money Team has been faultless this campaign winning all three starts. Wide gate the query.
